Staten Island, New York

Why are superheroes so popular? Are they simply for children or do these costumed characters represent something much deeper in the minds of people everywhere? Avi Gvili, author of Samson Turner & the Legend of Hercules and the just published sequel, The Quest for Olympus, will discuss the philosophy behind such popular characters as Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Wolverine and more.

Superheroes continue to dominate at the box office, bringing in billions of dollars in film and licensing revenues. Is this a passing phenomenon or can we expect many variations of this central theme to be with us for the foreseeable future? Avi Gvili presents information for the latter, and explains what this has to do with the ancient world.

Avi Gvili is a writer, educator and president of Boulevard Books, an educational publishing company for the 21st century.
