MELBOURNE, Australia

Over the course of seven years in the welfare system of Victoria, author Alex Gordon witnessed rape, drug abuse and sexual assault. This made a mark in his mind. In his publication, "The Other Side of Dark" (published by Xlibris AU), he takes readers on a journey that will touch their hearts and change the way they look at life.

David is always harassed by other students for fun. When Kelvin came to his life, he learned that words can neither break bones, nor the spirit of one's soul. It is this lesson that David must understand through journeying into Kelvin's dark past and the tragedy of his life. Will they be able to find the light and experience the brighter side of life?

Part fiction and non-fiction, this book tells the author's story and what he witnessed during his stay in the welfare system. It also chronicles the story of many other dark knight or foster kids and the reason for their being there. Each of their stories is blended into an inspiring tale that lends a voice to those who were abused and who experienced dark times in the welfare system. It softens the blow for readers and gives them a good ending, or at least spares them from the true horrors that foster children go through.

A gripping and heartrending read, this book shows readers "The Other Side of Dark," letting them witness the awful plight of many children who were failed by the system. It may be a tragic tale, but it also imparts an inspiring message that the indomitable human spirit will not break in the face of hardship and suffering.
