At fourteen, Jordan-Powell wrote his first 3-act play, which was performed off, off Broadway. Years later, he was invited to participate in the Harlem Writer's Guild, extended by [the late] Dr. Maya Angelou. For the first two books of poetry: "Listen to My Words," and "Rachel and Esther," an introduction was written by Nikki Giovanni. In 1983, he was listed in the "Outstanding Young Men of America Who's Who." In 1985, he created two cable television programs: one geared toward the entertainment industry and the second with interest that appealed to children. He became the CEO of "Young Directions, Inc." his own not-for-profit youth organization formed also in 1985, a spinoff from the cable program of the same title. The recipient of a CITATION from former Brooklyn Borough President, Howard Golden, he was cited for his motivational speaking, youth and community work. Jordan-Powell has created a "CITIZEN-TO-CITIZEN AWARD," which is only presented to individuals/groups who are doing 'something' positive to help others.

He has worked with dysfunctional children and their families for more than 30 years. In conjunction with everything, Jordan-Powell wrote articles for several publications, in New York, the Caribbean and the South. "Mom/Dad said..." is his third book.
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, A.V. Jordan-Powell's poignant tale is a guide book to inspire and improve communication of families.

Mom and Dad Said is a book that encourages children to work through a variety of situations with their parents, guardians, or a significant other. Reading together, they explore challenging scenarios involving family dynamics, identifiable development, love, sexuality, and a host of personal experiences.

The child and parent will share an understanding and appreciation of one another. They will as well improve the way they communicate their feelings.

For each presented scenario, Mom and Dad Said offers eight pre-written responses that the child and parent can talk about. The scenarios cover a wider range of parental concerns. From being extremely positive to extremely negative in tone. The book even provide space for the child to write his/her own response.

Families who read Mom and Dad Said will find that the 'activity-book' provides them with improved communication skills, and a greater confidence in the bonding of their child-parent relationship.

Readers who wish to experience this inspiring work can purchase "Dad and Mom said...." at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
