Ian Hamilton's alter ego, Will Traverse, is in a reflective state as he journeys from an ancient Aboriginal site in the mountains west of the city, through the ruins of a cathedral in the city's centre, and on to an Aboriginal midden by the sea. "A Long Walk Through A Short History" (published by Xlibris AU), offers a unique perspective on cities and the way they are remembered.

In the tradition of the flâneur, resident, and general busy-body, Will Traverse walks across the city, interacting with others along the way. Through the course of his stroll, he recalls events from his own past, some pleasant, some bitter-sweet, some nightmarish. This book invites readers to join Will on this at times haunting journey across a city that, in many ways, no longer exists.

Insightful and thought-provoking at the same time, this book allows readers to imagine how their own places of residences have impacted on their lives.

An excerpt from the book:
The heat and the long hours on the road were getting to me. I felt detached from the everyday world, as if the places I walked through and the people I passed by were not places or people from any substantial world at all, but fleeting illusions, stage sets that, once I'd passed, fell away like props in a play that had no meaning. The world I walked through changed the moment I passed by.
