Voodoo and vengeance descend on a small Louisiana town when a mysterious preacher bewitches the local women and confronts a county sheriff about his past in LOUISIANA BACCHAE, to be performed by Red Thread Theatre for Curtain Up 2016.

At once a wild celebration of sexuality and religion and an eerie reminder of the xenophobia and police/race relations plaguing the USA, LOUISIANA BACCHAE is a modernization of the Greek classic for the America of our times.

"When Robert Waterhouse brought us the idea to explore Euripides' tragedy through the prism of modern day authoritarian anger and racial resentment, we were immediately intrigued," says Josephine Hogan, producer and co-founder of Red Thread Theatre. "Featuring live music, dance and video projections, the production promises to be both innovative and provocative."

Adapted and directed by Waterhouse, LOUISIANA BACCHAE features Christian Brandjes, Eileen Dugan, Greg Howze, Geoff Pictor, Bonnie Jean Taylor and Harold White, with music by Tom Makar, choreography by Bonnie Jean Taylor and videography by Jim Bush.

The play opens on Friday, September 16 at 8:00p.m., with performances following on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. until October 8. All performances take place at the Jim Bush Studios, an urban space that operates as a unique site-specific venue for exciting theatre, located at 44 17th Street, Buffalo. Street parking is available on 17th and Richmond Avenue.

Reservations can be made by calling 716-445-4653 or emailing redthreadtheatre@yahoo.com. Tickets are $25.00 general admission, $15.00 for seniors and $10.00 for students. Group rates are available. Thursday nights are Pay What You Can!
