Photo Flash: Ellen and Dermot Mulroney Attend Cape Rep Theatre's Summer Starlight Gala

Cape Rep Theatre's Summer Starlight: An Evening With Ellen and Dermot Mulroney benefitting Cape Rep Theatre on July 15 was a sold out success raising over $16,000 for the Brewster theatre. Guests included actors Chris Cooper and his wife Marianne Leone Cooper, gubernatorial candidate Dan Wolf, and many other prominent leaders from the arts and business communities from Cape Cod, Boston and the South Shore. Cape Rep was honored to have acclaimed film actor Dermot Mulroney and his mother, actress Ellen Mulroney one night only in the reading of a new, short play Peter Pan's Mother written by Christine Emmert, followed by an audience conversation in the intimate 130-seat theatre with Dermot, moderated by Improper Bostonian magazine's lead columnist Jonathan Soroff. The play was a touching tribute to the relationship between a mother and son. The discussion afterward was filled with Dermot's shared childhood memories of Cape Cod, stories of being influenced by his mother's love of acting, and several entertaining anecdotes about on-set experiences, including his most recent on the set of August: Osage County with fellow Summer Starlight guest, actor Chris Cooper. The audience also got a rare preview of Cape Rep's next musical The Mystery of Edwin Drood opening July 25.

Cape Rep is comprised of four separate structures, housing three theatres-including Cape Cod's only outdoor theatre-on seven beautiful acres of Nickerson State Park. Monies raised from Summer Starlight will help fund the continuous restoration and maintenance of those structures among other initiatives.

Summer Starlight guests enjoyed a beautiful evening with flowers by Bee & Blossom florist, an array of delicious hors d'oeuvres by Artistry Boston, freshly shucked oysters by Impudent Oyster chef Lou Concra, and sweet treats from Chatham Candy Manor and Hot Chocolate Sparrow of Orleans. Cocktails courtesy of Friends' Marketplace of Orleans and music from the Bart Weisman Smooth Jazz Group completed this perfect Cape Cod night. About Dermot Mulroney: Dermot Mulroney has appeared in over 65 films with starring roles in such hits as: My Best Friend's Wedding, Stoker, About Schmidt, Longtime Companion, The Family Stone, Young Guns, The Wedding Date, Where the Day Takes You, The Last Outlaw, The Grey, and soon to be released August: Osage County. Dermot has appeared in several TV programs including Fox's New Girl and HBO's Enlightened, and will star in the upcoming NBC series Crisis.

About Ellen Mulroney: Ellen Mulroney has graced numerous stages the past 35 years. Her first appearances with Cape Rep were in The Real Inspector Hound and The Mousetrap. Some of her favorite credits include: The Bad Seed, A Perfect Ganesh, Agnes of God, The Glass Menagerie, Look Homeward, Angel, and Harvey. For years Ellen portrayed Jeannette Rankin, the first U.S. Congresswoman, in Year of the Woman.

About Christine Emmert: Christine is a writer, actress, director, educator and fan of the theater. She has worked over fifty years to make all the world her stage. Most recently she is part of the outreach program for Hopewell Furnace National Park, touring with a look at the suffrage movement, and directing a one-woman piece she wrote about women in the ironworking industry of Pennsylvania. Her novel, The Nun's Dragon, is scheduled for publication this December.

About Jonathan Soroff: Jonathan Soroff is a Boston native and a graduate of Duke University. His journalism career began at the Boston Herald, and he's written for everyone from People to the Royal Academy magazine (London). For the past 20 years, he has been the lead columnist for the Improper Bostonian magazine. He is also the creator of the world's first blahgazine, www.itsmylifegetyourown.com, and just published a sizzling beach-read of a novel, Crimes of Fashion. He lives in Newton, Mass.
