Cape Playhouse Kicks Off Season Next Week with ART!

The historic Cape Playhouse's 91st season kicks off with Yasmine Reza's Art, the critically acclaimed comedy, in its Playhouse premiere. Starring David Beach, Eddie Korbich and Andrew Macdonald, and directed by Matt Lenz, Art plays June 13 through 24.

Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play, Olivier Award for Best Comedy, and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play, Art focuses on the meaning of art (in the form of a solid white painting) and the meaning of friendship to the man who bought the painting and the two friends who come to see it. Art has won rave reviews and laughter of audiences around the world.

David Beach (Marc)'s Broadway credits include Something Rotten, It's Only A Play, Mama Mia! and Urinetown. Off-Broadway and Regional credits include Damn Yankees, The Great American Mousical (directed by Julie Andrews) at the Goodspeed Opera House; Primary Stages, Alabama Shakespeare, the Walnut Street Playhouse and the Adirondack Theater Festival. TV and film audiences have seen him in Veep, The Good Wife, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, The Sopranos, Law & Order, Dharma & Greg, Malcolm In The Middle.

Yvan will be played by Eddie Korbich, seen in the original Broadway casts of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, A Christmas Story, The Little Mermaid, The Drowsy Chaperone (Drama Desk nomination), Breakfast at Tiffany's, Wicked, Seussical, Carousel and Sweeney Todd. His Off-Broadway credits include Assassins, Godspell, The Gifts of the Magi, Flora, The Red Menace, A Little Night Music, Eating Raoul and Taking a Chance on Love (Obie Award).Regionally, he has performed at The North Shore Music Theater, On TV, he has appeared in Blue Bloods, Elementary, The Mysteries of Laura, and Law & Order. Eddie loves doing cartoon voices and has been a series regular on "Doug, Pinky Dinky Doo and PB & J Otter.

David Andrew Macdonald (Serge) last appeared at The Cape Playhouse, having last appeared in Murder by Misadventure (2015). His Broadway credits include Skylight; Rocky; Mamma Mia!; Coram Boy; Two Shakespearean Actors. His has been seen in the National Tour of An Inspector Call and Off-Broadway in The Green Heart and A Night and her Stars at the Manhattan Theatre Club. His regional theatre credits include the Geva Theatre, North Shore Music Theatre, The Old Globe, Hartford Stage, Cleveland Playhouse, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, and The Alley Theatre,and many others. His TV credits include: Elementary, Person of Interest, The Blacklist, The Michael J Fox Show, Law and Order, Law and Order SVU, and a number of soap operas including ten years as Prince Edmund Winslow on Guiding Light.

Art is directed by Matt Lenz, (Broadway: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Velocity of Autumn, Hairspray; national tours: A Christmas Story, The Sound of Music). The design team includes Michael Carnahan (scenic design), Sky Switser (costume design), Jeff Sherwood (sound design) and Jaron Kent Hermansen (lighting design).

Yasmina Reza is a French playwright and novelist, based in Paris, whose works have all been multi-award-winning, critical and popular international successes, produced worldwide and translated into 35 languages. She has written seven plays (Conversations After A Burial, The Passage of Winter, Arts, The Unexpected Man, Life X 3, A Spanish Plat, God Of Carnage, How You Talk The Game) and 6 novels ("Hammerklavier," "Une Desolation (Desolation)," "Adam Haberberg," "Dans la Luge d'Arthur Schopenhauer," "Nulle Part" and "L'Aube, le Soir ou la Nuit (Dawn Dusk or Night)"). Films include: Le Pique-Nique de Lulu Kreutz, directed by Didier Martiny and Chicas, written and directed by the author.

Playing June 13 through 24, performances are Monday through Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm, Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm, with matinees on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 2:00 pm and Saturdays at 4:00 pm.
