Presented by Chancellor Marty Meehan to Bonnie Comley and Stewart F. Lane, the Champion of the Arts Award was created to recognize extraordinary support of the arts at UMass Lowell and honors individuals whose financial generosity sustains the creative lifeblood of students pursuing careers in creative arts.

Bonnie Comley and Stewart F. Lane, the first to be selected for this recognition, have been staunch, consistent supporters of the arts on campus, most notably through their support of the Comley-Lane Theatre and the Comley-Lane Theatre Fund.

World-famous producers, writers and directors, Ms. Comley and Mr. Lane have both earned multiple Tony Awards for their extensive work on Broadway. In addition, the pair owns Stellar Productions, and recently announced a new entity, BroadwayHD, which aims to record live theater performances for release on other platforms including movie theaters, television and DVD.

Ms. Comley and Mr. Lane have also helped shape the university through participation on the Chancellor's External Task Force Advisory Board and the Commencement Host Committee, and Ms. Comley is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award ('10) and 2004's Francis Cabot Lodge Alumni Award for Outstanding Achievement in Business.

Mr. Lane has written several books, including "Black Broadway: African Americans on the Great White Way" and "Jews on Broadway". Ms. Comley and Mr. Lane live in New York City with their five children. For more information on the school click here.
