Brown Box Theatre Project is thrilled to announce their summer season!

First up is the raw and illuminating drama: Brilliant Traces by Cindy Lou Johnson in June. Rounding out their sixth season will be their annual outdoor Shakespeare production of Cymbeline in August.

Both productions will open in Boston before touring to the Delmarva peninsula.

BRILLIANT TRACES

Brilliant Traces is set In a remote cabin nestled in the Alaskan wilderness. Sole occupant, Henry Harry, sleeps as a blizzard rages outside. When he is awakened by a pounding at the door, a dazed stranger stumbles in without explanation for her full bridal attire before falling asleep for two days. As Henry Harry cares for her, Rosannah dissects her reckless non-stop drive from an Arizona wedding chapel to Alaska. The two navigate each other within the confines of this tiny cabin as they begin to reconcile their own loneliness and grapple with wounded pasts, gnawing regrets, and desperate fears in whiteout conditions.

Artistic Director Kyler Taustin states, "This play embodies the kind of work that Brown Box consistently strives to achieve. It is smart, beautiful, touching, and thought-provoking, and its unique blend of abstract and linear structures make it an exciting challenge that allows the comedic circumstances, hidden secrets, and dark pasts of its characters to shine through."

Brilliant Traces will perform at Atlantic Wharf in Boston from June 4 through June 12, followed by a tour to Oxford, Salisbury, and Ocean City, Maryland.

CYMBELINE

When Imogen's father banishes her soul-mate, the princess must embark on a quest to prove her fidelity, escape her stepmother's dastardly plot, and reclaim her love. Cymbeline is brimming with forbidden romance, mistaken identities, jealousy, vile trickery, poison, disguises, and epic swordfights. A theatrical feast that defies genre lines, Cymbeline delicately blends tragedy, comedy, and romance into an enchanting and unforgettable Shakespearian fairy tale.

Taustin explains, "Cymbeline, one of Shakespeare's rarely produced works, is an alluring amalgamation of romance, ferocity, intrigue, and fancy, all encompassed in one 'hidden gem' of a play. Its focus on patriotism, loyalty, trust, and honor is incredibly timely in our current social and political climate, and I am eager to use this play to explore the ways in which pride and ego can blind even the most noble individuals and result in ruinous consequences within families, countries, and even oneself."

Cymbeline will tour throughout Eastern Massachusetts from August 19 through August 28 before traveling south to the Delmarva peninsula.
