Broadway Internships

I definitely want to work in the Broadway industry once I'm out of college, so I'm looking for internships for next fall once I'm back in NYC. I'm specifically looking for marketing/management type internships. Does anyone know any good resources for where to find some and how to apply?

I'm interning right now at Frankel Green Theatrical Management and its amazing. Google Richard Frankel productions and find the intern tab. (They are the producers/general managers of Rock of Ages, The Norman Conquests, Stomp, Sweeney Todd, Hairspray, The Producers, Gypsy etc.) It's an amazing company.

What sorts of things do you have to do? Is it for credit or paid (or both)? And perks?! haha what are they if there are any?

I'm the intern for the general manager of Rock of Ages, so I'm not exactly sure what they do over in marketing, but I know it's a great place to be. The perks were this past week that we all got to go to the Tony rehearsal, and the party. You get school credit, (they do 3 semesters), it's in Times Square, you get free tickets to a lot of shows, you get to sit in on marketing/production meetings with the producers and see first hand how a Broadway show is run and it is a paid internship, normally 250 a week but it was bumped down to 100 haha

Once the site is updated APPLY. It's an incredible networking opportunity. This is really the company to work for if you want to get into general managing or marketing for Broadway.

Use a cover letter for your resume, and make the cover letter interesting and not an explanation of what's on your resume. Hm. Just show your genuine interest in what you want to do, you know? Your half student, half employee as an intern, so make sure they know you're in it to learn, and not to make money. :]

So I just realized that my original post had said next summer when I meant this upcoming fall. Do you know if they hire part-time interns during the school year?

They go by semester. So if they decide to hire you, they'll work with whichever semester you want I believe. I'm only a summer intern, but you're full-time at the office, no part-time.

Check into Boneau/Bryan-Brown - usually they post their availability on Playbill jobs. I interned for them when I was in college - part time during the fall semester (3 days a week). It was unpaid, but we got transportation reimbursement (this was a few years ago, so things might have changed since then.)

Frankel Green Theatrical Management sounds great. Unfortunately, they only have full time internships.

I am also just beginning to look into getting an internship for next summer, but to whoever said they are working for the general manager of Rock of Ages? What do you do? i mean, as in, what is the job of a paid intern? I just want to know if I, as a performance major with a little backstage and business experience but not much, could pull it off or even be considered as a nonbusiness major.

I'd like to have a paid internship in the city, mostly cause I'm over community theater and I need to expand my horizons, lol.

I fill house seat requests/vouchers, run errands for Leslie (the ROA general manager), sit in on production/marketing meetings, help with events, file etc.

I'm a musical theatre major at The Boston Conservatory, I zero backstage experience, just office, retail and performance. You need to be passionate about the craft, know A LOT about the business, know who people are etc. It's a difficult job and you make wonderful connections.

NYU houses summer interns, so that's where I'm living. My parents are helping me pay for it because they are the best parents ever. I've been here since June 2nd and my last day is August 7th and then I go back to school for rehearsals.

Hey guys!! I'm really interested in a broadway internship for next summer and I have a few questions about it. First of all, what kind of qualifications do these companies look for in an intern? I'm a business major, but is a theater background necessary? What kind of skills/activities can I do within the next year to make my resume look more attractive? And finally, how difficult is it really to obtain a position? Are there hundreds of hopefuls applying? Do I stand a chance? Cause I want this really bad so I'm gonna do everything I can to help myself here. =D Thanks!
