Leno has hosted the Tonight Show for more than half my life. Hard to believe that after tonight he won't be on anymore.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
Wow it has been 17 years since I stopped watching the Tonight Show! Watched Jay's first night and took an instant dislike for him, it has remained for 17 years. Might have been due to all that politicking he was doing at that time at 30 Rock.

Well, most of the hoopla was over who would take over for Carson. There's no such question this time around.

On Carson's last night, he had to be "rescued" from the studio in a helicopter because of all the well-wishers and press. I don't think it will be like that tonight, do you?
When Carson retired it was a big deal and very emotional.
Oh, and Carson stayed retired. I think he gave an interview to Esquire magazine but other than that he stayed out of the limelight til he died. Johnny Carson was a legend and an example of true class.
Jay Leno is moving to an earlier timeslot.
In case anyone is interested, here is how you exit a TV show

On Johnny's last night, Bette sang to him, with Marc Shaiman at the piano and Charlo Crossley and Jennifer Lewis backing her.
Last night, Marc played, and Charlo and Jennifer were part of the choir.
Bet you didn't know that!

I actually predict that Leno's nightly show will last only a very short time, until NBC gives him the Sunday night prime time slot (think Sullivan). I don't see a line up of men sitting behind desks telling jokes from 10 PM till 1:30 AM lasting long (and I do include the nightly News in that). Or perhaps this is the final Death Rattle of Network television.

No, everybody knew exactly who was taking over for Carson long before his last episode. In fact, Carson had Letterman on as he was winding down and made it pretty clear that he wasn't psyched about Leno taking over, and he said to Letterman, "Still pissed?"
