"Kristina, a musical from the creators of the worldwide hit Mamma Mia!, will make its New York debut in two concert performances this fall. The show, which features music and lyrics by ABBA songwriting partners Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus and English lyrics by Ulvaeus and Herbert Kretzmer, will be performed in concert at Carnegie Hall on September 23 and 24. No casting or director has been announced.
Originally titled Kristina från Duvemåla, the musical premiered in the creators? native Sweden in 1995 and ran for almost four years, winning four Guldmasken Theatre Awards (Sweden?s Tony). Based on The Emigrants series of novels by Vilhelm Moberg, Kristina tells the epic story of a family?s migration from Sweden to America in the mid-19th century. A concert version was performed in Swedish in 1996 in Minneapolis, where many events in the novels took place.

A cast recording of the Carnegie Hall concert version of Kristina is being planned, to be released through Universal Music?s Decca Records. "

The last part there made my day! Finally you guys really get
to know the most amazing musical ever!
I saw it twice in Stockholm, and nothing I've ever seen since (London, Broadway) could compare (although Wicked is kinda close)

I'm very interested in an english recording of this...and Rebecca, and Elisabeth!

Not really feeling excited if it's only as good as Wicked, however...the recording would be enough then.

I don't get the comparison to "Wicked" at all, although I guess I have to wait to pass judgement until I actually see "Kristina" (hopefully) in September.

I've loved the score for years, even in Swedish....and if we have to bring in a Bjorn & Benny comparison, "Wicked" reminds me more of "Chess," but only in terms of a good first act followed by a overly plotted second that threatens to undermine the whole show.

I didn't say that you should compare "Kristina" and "Wicked" (duh), what I mean is; I loved "Wicked" almost as much as I love "Kristina". There are not really any similarities between them at all! "Kristina" is a big epic story (based on true history) and it's incredibly moving

Gotcha...I'm not a big "Wicked" fan, so I'm hoping I enjoy "Kristina" more.

"Kristina" drove me to read the books it's based on, so I'd say it's had more of an impact already.

The books are amazing, aren't they?? I couldn't stop reading...and the clever thing is they have lifted whole sentences from the book and put them in the show, so you imedtiately recognized everything! Great work!
