Paul Scott Goodmans's musical "Rooms" opens to raves at MetroStage in Alexandria, VA. It's worth a trip down to see Natascia Diaz and Doug Kreeger in this great musical and production.

Peter Marks on Rooms:
"Diaz -- seen in these parts most recently in Signature Theatre's "Kiss of the Spider Woman" -- does an excellent job of bringing out the charm in what could be a bulldozer of a character, successfully taking Monica from youthful irascibility to a more womanly warmth. As a result, the evening's climax raises the mandatory lump in the throat. Vocally, she is a supple match for the impressive Kreeger, who allows us to believe in Ian's passions and his weaknesses. Both are woven into his rendition of Ian's intense, cathartic anthem, "Fear of Flying.

All those assets, the production entertainingly puts on display -- along with a couple of pretty decent Scottish accents..."

What is shilling? I didn't write the review-Stephen McKnight did. There are allot of Rooms fans in NYC who are wondering how the new production is being received, so I posted two reviews here- The Wash Post and DC Theatre Scene and will post the others as they come in.

I am not a critic. I am a columnist and podcaster trying to promote our local theatres and shows in Phillly and NYC. Check my column called Theatre Schmooze here and listen to my podcasts at www.dctheatrescene.com by clicking on Our Podcasts.

I did podcast several Philly actors at shows this spring and early summer-Hugh Panaro and Scott Greer at Walnut Street Theatre's Lez Miz, Dan Kazemi at Walnut Street Theatre's The Irish..., Cathy Simpson at The Wilma's Eurydice and Bill Irwin at Philadelphia Theatre Company's The Happiness Lecture, and I will do the same for the fall, spring and next summer season. If you check the Pennsylvania Room, you will see them there, or you can hear them by clicking on this link and scrolling down. Since you saw some of these shows, leave a comment at our site and let us know what you thought about the shows and podcasts. By the way, I hate the word "dude." My name is Joel.

Joel, did you rave about Glory Days when it was playing at Signature?

I wrote some articles about the show in my Theatre Schmooze column when I heard the score in concert at The Kennedy Center, because I loved the score and saw -and still see - great potential in James and Nick who wrote it. I believe the show will do well in universities and maybe overseas, and in small venues. It should have never gone to a Broadway house until it had more workshops, and I made these feelings known to everyone who would listen. And Off-Broadway stint where they could have worked on the show would have done them well. I respect Nick and James very much, and know that they will write great musicals in the future, and will look back on this experience and laugh one day. Go to www.dctheatrescene.com and put in "Glory Days" in the top right "search" and you can read my articles and listen to the podcast I recorded with Nick and James -our most listened to podcast ever. Our reviewer, Gary McMillan, loved the show as did many of the local DC critics.
The NYC experience was a sad experience for all of us in the DC Theatre community, who wished James and Nick well.

I agree that both guys have potential...and I hope they learned from this NY experience when they are looking to mount their next show.
