I was shocked to see Ms. Roberts' name in the chorus for Curtains. I thought her Millie (1st National Tour) was amazing, and enjoyed her far more than Foster in the role. So what is this talented voice with great comic timing doing in the chorus, Sure, works work. But she has such star quality, its a shame to use her in such a minimal role.
It happens to be a show that's heavy with star quality and big names. Noah Racey's last role on Broadway was the lead, and he's playing a small supporting role in CURTAINS.

LOVED Darcie in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. She definitely has that spark that makes her shine.
This also happened to Bianca Marroquin. Last year she took a break from starring as Roxie Hart in the Broadway revival of CHICAGO to be in the ensemble of the Broadway revival of THE PAJAMA GAME.
Go figure.

What's he up to, anyway? He's so talented; I thought he was wonderful in the Oklahoma! revival. I've seen him pop up in a few ensembles since, and it's always a nice surprise.
Sometimes doing ensemble work is just more fun. It's nice to know the whole show isn't riding on your shoulders and you can just have fun with friends and stuff. I'm not saying that they CHOSE to be in the ensemble, but it's not a bad gig.
And I agree about Darcie. I thought she was great, but Matt C. as Jimmie just got on my last nerve - though he's great in Grey Gardens it seems.
Roberts is a billion times more talented than Zzzzzzzziemba, in my opinion.
And I never said she was above a chorus role. Yes a job is a job, but its just a shame that someone with that much star quality has to take a backseat to a friend of the production.
I was in the ensemble of a production of Evita back in 2001, with Ms. Roberts playing the title role. She was really quite good. She had a very powerful voice and suited the role well. Burke Moses played Che and he was truly phenomenal. They both had really great personalities. I'd really like to see Moses do more though!
Let's not forget one of the many themes of "A Chorus Line." Everyone in the show is amazingly talented!!! Just because you don't have a lead or featured role, that doesn't diminish your talent.
Some people seem to think that being in the ensemble is beneath them. Obviously, Darcie doesn't think so. I did "Me & My Girl" with Darcie many moons ago. A great gal and very talented!
