Very few in the cast have missed shows. No matter who is out, it must be like losing an arm.

Michael, that's really impressive!
Wow. That's pretty awesome and shows some great dedication. But you know, he doesn't need any time off anyways seeing as his backup singers sing all his Sweeney vocals for him

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps...
What did she realize, Kitten?
That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs.
What's wrong with that?
Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had...

Well maybe some directors ask about Actor's attendance but Most don't.
Look at Wedding Singer. and Hot Feet
Except for Lynch the actors miss a lot.
Out of Town try-outs must have some understudies,
it is an Equity Rule,

Sometime not casting understudies is also a financial issue, as opposed to one about forcing or drawing out committment.
And, as always, talking about professional issues must also be about personal sexual ones in typical, crass, CurtainPullDowner thread fashion.

Posted: 7/24/06 at 8:51amThis doesn't surprise me. I caught the show a second time a few weeks ago at a Wedenesday matinee. In the pouring rain Michael came out to greet the fans, take pictures, and sign autographs! What a great guy!

Because alwy15, attendance does not only consist of being sick. Many Broadway performers miss shows because of other engagements. Michael is either in low enough demand (I have my doubts) or so dedicated to the show that he makes sure to make it every night and matinee.
Anyone ever read A Year With The Producers, when Jeffrey Denman cites Matthew Broderick as chartering a helicopter to get out of bad traffic to get him to the theatre on time? Priceless!

alwy15 - I work at my local middle school doing the records in guidance that include the attendance records for the year. Some peak-health hormonals, teachers, secretaries, and janitors can't withstand 180 schooldays, including when they have off for every weekend, national and board-of-ed-scheduled holiday, Jewish holiday in our WASP area, and random snowday.
Props to Michael for handling a schedule under which most people would snap and go running for their mommies!

Posted: 7/24/06 at 10:44ami understand all of the above. but an attendance record is not proof of dedication, that is an assumption. it is only proof that he has the chops to perform well frequently. and that's because his immune system rocks. i don't see much cause for celebration. if michael cerveris got mononucleosis, would he be less dedicated?
