Did anyone read this book? did they like it? it's one of my favorite young reader books and I'm writing an adapted screenplay of it.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel.

It is a far, far better thing I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known.

I love all her books! This is part of The Dark is Rising series, right?

I heard a radio lecture (I think it was Cambridge Forum) where the author (also Hume Cronyn's partner after Jessica Tandy) discussed the homosexuality of one of the protagonists. It was a talk on incorporating serious issues into children's literature and I think the character referred to was the main character, Nat Field, and his unrecognized boy love for Shakespeare whom he meets through a time travel plot device. I haven't actually read the book myself so can't confirm if that is what is hinted at by the language. I know there is an audiobook version read by the brilliant Jim Dale (available through Audible.com) and at least two audio dramatizations, a recording put out by NYS Theatre Institute and a 2003 BBC radio version. I listened to the BBC one when it was rebroadcast in December 2013 and loved every minute. A very beautiful, touching story. Queen Elizabeth I plays a brief but important role in the story which reminded me that I haven't watched SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE in some time. Glad to read today that the Disney/Sonia Friedman/Lee Hall play version is moving forward.
