I knew the production existed, but have just now taken a listen to its music. OUTSTANDING! Why not a production on Broadway?
Has Stephen Schwartz been asked this?
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

did they write any new songs for the German production? I've never been able to find a translated song list... I almost want to get the CD... it's the only thing of Shwartz's that I can stand...
This show was great. Yes there are new songs in it like "made of stone" and a new version of "someday". It was a great show that made me fly between Paris and Berlin 5 times. It is way better than Tarzan and Beauty and thank God they changed the corny ending of the movie. I know the complete English lyrics are somewhere on the French net. I'll try to find them for you.
In my heart, I found the answered dream,
and in my soul I found the song, and in my friends
I found the magic, the love,
the moon up above- they were mine, all mine, all along..!
The CD is now out of print now. I just checked on the German Amazon and couldn't find it PM me if you want and we could make something work out. This score shouldn't be missed.

Dont forget that Stephen S. didnt write the music, just the lyrics, but it is a GREAT show, esp the sets and lighting. Last i heard, Disney was to worried about the "Adult" ending would not go down well with American audiences who whould expect a "Happy Ending" I think that is nonscence, look at what happens in Aida. I really wish it would be done somewhere in English, either London or NYC. they have some great new songs, Made of Stone and the Gypsi Dances, not to mention my fav. Esmiralda.

Well, there have been reports (but no news lately) that they were going to transfer the stage musical concept to a TV musical. They said they were writing more material for it (but i can't see why they would even need to whent he German score is overflowing with music). Yes the "adult" nature of the story is different from the movie and was a concern for American audiences. I, for one, would love to see this on stage. I guess it was gorgeous to look at and was quite successful in Germany.
*Translation: I do not think that anyone is ready for a German languaged musical. Translated into English, maybe, but German? I don't think so. Besides, I've had enough of seeing Disney on Broadway.
"Ev'ry-buddy wants ta get into de act!"
- Jimmy Durante
"Breathe from your hoo-hoo."
-Kristin Chenoweth
Der Glockner is fabulous, and it's a total crime that it hasn't been done on Broadway. The orchestrations and the new songs are insanely gorgeous. Actually, the recording as a whole is one of the best there is, I think.
lol, jasobres. thanx for sharing some German lessons with us (though some flaws found their way ). But I disagree: Hunchback is not a typical Disney show, it is darker and the music has a classical touch in the most songs. I would definitaly work great, if only they get some decent directing it. I had the pleasure of seeing it in Berlin and I was though somewhat impressed by this very modern staging but still found it too abstract to really like it.
Yes, I heard they were going to adapt the German musical for television. But this was on Michael Eisner's personal agenda.
Since he is...er...LEAVING, I don't think the TV musical will happen.
