Today, there was another "report" of Kelly Osbourne "going into HAIRSPRAY this summer".
first off, this "story" is being made up by someone
but!!!
all you people down below writing "Kelly Osbourne can't sing!!", well...I disagree!
I heard her sing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Xmas" in the Osbourne living room and she belted her little ass off, and in tune!
(On the other hand, she also hadn't learned the correct melody for the whole song!!)
And I personally LOVED her single "Shut Up".
Whether the personality she has showed on the show could possibly meld with an 8 show a week job, well, that's a better question...
Anyway, whoever keeps planting this "story" is not doing the poor girl any favors.
but I DO hope she wants to audition, and I would look forward to it and hope she did really well.
NO ONE should be pre-judged like so many on the boards like to do, and EVERYONE has to start somewhere...there is no RIGHT way to break into any field IF you've "got it"
If Miss O. auditions someday, she will either bowl us over or not, just the same way any other hopeful "Tracy" would have to
cheers!!

I dont have much of an opinion about her singing ability, I only remember hearing her sing once and it was fine, nothing overly memorable though. Id be interested to see someone like her have to give off the hopeful eagerness of tracy.
All I can say is that I have seen Ms. Osbourne live, on stage with her band (I went on a lark -- a friend of a friend was promoting the show and I was comped). Perhaps, she sounds fine singing Xmas carols in a living room, but on stage in a large music venue, she sounded like a female William Hung with worse intonation (I'm not exaggerating). No sense of pitch or rhythm or diction or tone -- simply awful. I left after less than a half an hour along with more than a few others (people were actually booing her at her own event).
And look I have no problem with someone who has a real punk rock voice, if that's what she was trying to do; I've heard and liked Courtney Love and Shirley Manson and Siouxsie Sioux and Karen O and lots of other female rockers ....who know how to sing. But, at least the night I saw her, Ms. Osbourne displayed no discernable grasp of even the basics of singing live on a stage. Yes, she's young, and I'm not trying to be unfair, and perhaps with training she can improve, but based on my own two ears, at this stage of her musical development, IMO she's nowhere near ready to handle the role of Tracy Turnblad.

meh. I don't have the same basis for judging her talent as either Margo or Marc. But she is just not my favorite reality-tv person ever. I'd take Jessica over Kelly any day.
"I guess she is one very confident girl who feels if you see it, it shall be.
I hope she sees a room with a piano player and a bunch of scary middle-aged queens sitting behind a table, talking to each other as she auditions!!"

Tahnk you Mr Shaiman. It is nice sometimes when people dont hide behind their screen names or phony pics and speak their heart. Sometimes a little gay cattiness never hurts but be warned when you say it and the person you are saying it about is right there.....

Oh, please, people. If you want to know the very definition of "desperate" you should have seen the poor promoter trying to scrouge up a crowd to go to a Kelly Osbourne concert at Irving Plaza. He was literally handing out free tickets to people walking past the venue (when my friend called me about going, he told me I could invite as many people as I wanted -- for the sake of my other friendships (and my personal well-being) I didn't call anybody I knew to go with me.

Marissa was ALRIGHT. That's it. She was decent, but God knows WHY she got the Tony. Nobody can tell me that there weren't any auditioners that were better singers. I mean, come on! I'm sure that most of us agree that Marissa was infectiously bubbly and sweet and funny and cute and charming, but her voice wasn't all that hot. And in regards to Kelly Osbourne: I've seen her sing live. I wouldn't really like to see her sing live again. I just don't think she could pull it off. No disrespect to Marissa OR Kelly!! Congrats to Marissa on her win and I wish her success in everything... same to Kelly. I just didn't see it with Marissa and I don't see it with Kelly.
Well I will disagree with you. It is all about "PASSION" and Marissa had so much PASSION for the role. Same goes for Harvey.

Margo, you're killing me. This thread is a riot! I would have LOVED to see Kelly Osbourne with you.
Regarding Marissa, I thought she was delightful on stage. Unfortunately, that delicious demo recording of HAIRSPRAY with Annie Golden and Pattie Darcy spoiled me forever. While Annie Golden could never actually play Tracy, she sure knew how to wrap her throat around those Shangri-Las-inspired vocals. As much as I like Marissa and Kerry Butler, whenever I listen to the OBC of HAIRSPRAY, I pine for Annie and Pattie.

Oh, that's okay. HAIRSPRAY is a great show, but it's not the only one out there. I don't NEED to be in HAIRSPRAY to be successful. It'd just be a fun gig. There are lots of fish in the sea, folks! I'm not dissing HAIRSPRAY; I'm just being realistic.
And if he were to turn me down because I disagree with the fact that Marissa won the Tony, then shame on him! There is no reason to deny my talent just because I think that there were other extremely talented ladies who deserved the Tony. :)
As I said in the other thread about this, I think we are overlooking a great theatre opportunity...they can do a family thing...THE OSBOURNES TAKE OVER HAIRSPRAY!
I see it now... Sharon as Velma von Tussle Ozzy as Edna Kelly as Tracy Jack as Corny Collins ...the dogs and various animals dressed as rats...
Of course an agreement must be made with MTV so that they may be filmed backstage. Cursing at each other, Kelly and Jack throwing props at each other...I smell EMMY!
