They are re-making The Producers with Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, and Nicole Kidman Are there any other Musicals that you would like to see as a movie?
I would like them to redo Annie Get Your Gun and would also like to see Millie also
Hairspray would make an awesome movie. Can't wait!
I always thought Les Miz would make a beautiful film, if done correctly. It has the sweeping scope that would transfer well onto film. Of course, it would be over 3 hours long...

Yes, but the musical is an entirely different breed entirely. I think it would make a fabulous movie.

There have been numerous film versions of Les Miz (the book), actually - and ironically enough, it's the stage musical that does the best summary of the story. All the film versions seem to place too much emphasis on the wrong things, or cut characters out, etc.
For example, the Liam Neeson version started off very well, with Uma Thurman playing a very effective Fantine; but the second half of the story gets completely muddled and chopped down. They even cut out Eponine! And for some reason Cosette gets kidnapped by Javert or something....

As I stated in my thread about it, Dreamgirls would make an amazing movie and has so many great characters. The time span it covers and aging of characters, with many different locations also leads toward a great movie.
I think some astute upcoming group of film makers should apply for grant and foundation monies and begin a project of remaking every musical every filmed to date. They can spend their entire careers reinterpreting someone else's creative vision for newer audiences. As these filmmakers age the grant monies when then pass on to a younger group some of whom would continue the project but others would begin remaking the remakes, for examples the 5th version of THE MUSIC MAN (just to make sure it's done "right"). Think of the possibilities. The endless opportunity to play being creative without really having to create!
The idea can then spread to the other arts. Another group can begin repainting the Old Masters. A new version of Mona Lisa, another group could white out The Sistine Ceiling and repaint that, too. Simultaneously a group can begin to rebuild the Eiffel Tower because, well, because it was done so long ago.
The mind staggers with what would be accomplished.
Hairspray and Rent should NOT be made into movies!!!!! Little Shop with the revival cast MIGHT be good. Millie would be good.

Sorry - I misspoke due to my passionate feelings. And the revival of CABARET was not different enough from the movie version to warrant a remake. This is definitely a case of leave well enough alone.

It would be hard for me to like any kind of WICKED movie. I just dont think it could be better than the show.

I need to see the entire movie (which I've yet to do, but soon) to have a more well-forumlated opinion, but I'll clarify some more. There were musical differences between the movie and the revival (or any version of the musical for that matter), no? Songs that were not in the movie? Those would be good in a movie. And I remember Joel Grey saying that as he saw it, Emcee was decidedly evil. As I saw it, he wasn't such in the revival. All I'm saying is that I think a movie with differences like that would be good. That said, I'll leave it alone.
wicked would be a good movie (as in from the book). not a movie-musical.
second i think that they should make a movie out of "into the woods".. and some... not some.. ALL will disagree but i think it would be interesting and inovative. unique. u know. theres so many ideas. and i hate this topic. ugh. 'nough said
