I sat there for A Strange Loop and never again. Mezzanine for Grey House was much better

Remember when Kevin McCullum moved that off bway hit title of show to the Lyceum?

They're not super comparable. This is a 12-week run happening very quickly after it closes a commercial run at the Lortel and has the benefit of a huge amount of hype and demand. [tos] transferred to Broadway almost two years after it ended its run at the Vineyard. And although Oh, Mary is a small show, it has far more room to scale up than [tos] does.

Not comparable. Title of Show caught on with theatre people, this is an acclaimed commercial run that’s been buzzed about in major publications and across audiences.

Is there anything slated for Lyceum in the fall/holiday season? Is there room for this production to extend through the holidays if it sells well this summer?

For budgetary reasons, I'm gonna assume they have Cole contracted for 16-25 weeks, and advertising 12 weeks is just to push people to see it early in the run.

I know that MY SON’S A QUEER verbalized intentions to return to the Lyceum in the fall after falling through this spring, but if Oh Mary is a hit, MSAQ might need to either find another house or may capitulate altogether.

As far as I know, Buena Vista Social Club is looking to take the Broadhurst. The Jones will likely be free, as will the Belasco. As for other small to mid size houses, whatever will open up remains anyone’s guess

Let's be real: MSAQ is not ever coming to Broadway.

I think it’s great that MY SON’S A QUEER is trying to get on Broadway because of more representation. However, this should be a 1 month run and don’t sell the the balcony. I hoped producers learned their lesson from the first time of around

I haven't seen My Son's a Queer but do wish it the best. I know the show is from the UK but has it been performed anywhere here in the USA? Is it better for it to go the off-bway route like Oh Mary and see if it does well there and then go to Broadway?

MSAQ is being performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in August, and he is doing a different show prior to that. If a transfer dues happen (unlikely), it would be fall/winter, and hopefully off-Broadway first.

I am big. It’s the REVIVALS that got small.

MSAQ is never coming to NY for a commercial run, on Broadway or off. And besides, we don’t need more preachy crap. We need chaotic queer camp. Desperately.

Sorry to derail from an Oh, Mary! related thread, but I thought MSAQ was very much "chaotic queer camp"...? I haven't seen the show, but reviews and productions photo did not suggest preachy.

The content or quality of MSAQ is largely irrelevant here. When a production implodes before it starts its ticketed performances, it has nothing to do with the quality of the show itself and everything to do with the producers. Once it happens, it marks the production as risky or toxic in the eyes of prospective investors and is nearly impossible to bounce back from. Producers can verbalize intentions all they like- that’s basically their job, and it’s not like they will admit failure on their parts- but the production is dead.

I so badly want for Cole (as Mary) to introduce the  “Cabaret” performance at the Tony Awards by saying if people want to see a REAL cabaret star, come to the Lyceum theater this summer.

Honestly, Cole could probably take over the role of Emcee at some point and I would pay to see that

I WISH the people who programmed the Tonys were clever enough to use Cole in the broadcast.

We had Nick Kroll and John Mulaney in a hit Broadway show, and they didn’t even ask them to present.

Depends on whether they invite the Tony voters -- they may not want to waste the tickets for this short limited run on chasing awards that won't mean anything to them (financially, at least).

"

I've heard secondhand that Charlotte St. Martin was deeply resistant to them being involved as she felt they were mocking Broadway (and this is also the reason why Mulaney has never been a host). Not sure as to the veracity of that, but it certainly feels plausible.
