No one knows if a "last day" is even set. He certainly might chose to renew his contract.
Previews started on 10/18, so Oct 22 would be his last date if he doesn't renew. Openinw as 11/14, so November 19 is the other possiblitiy.. (I can never remember if their "year" starts with first preview or on the night of opening.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

On Tumblr, it's posted that "some" of the principals are leaving in October (Gelsey Bell and Grace McLean were mentioned name), but I don't see Lucas (or other leads) leaving any time before Labor Day, at the earliest.
Among ''The Great Comet's'' principals, Lucas Steele might've been with the show the longest, in its various incarnations. A couple months ago, he celebrated his 500th performance.
If you wanna know more about Lucas, here's a Playbill interview we did with him four years ago: He recalls his favorite celebrity encounter at ''Great Comet'' (Bernadette Peters); growing up gay, and working with Cyndi Lauper in ''Threepenny Opera.''
Considering all the health issues he's had with his knee as a result of the physically demanding nature of the role (didn't he have surgery, even?), not to mention the tough vocal demands of the role, I would be surprised if he renewed his contract. At least, in an interview done a few months ago at a fashion show, when he and Amber Grey were asked whether they'd renew, they both said they didn't think they would (they've both been with the show for years now).

It was Lucas Steele, Brittain Ashford, and Lauren Zakrin celebrating their 500th performance.
I wouldn't be surprised if much of the cast leaves. MANY have been with it for a looong time.

Josh Canfield was the perfect Anatole. Lucas missed so many performances when they did it at Kazino in 2013, so I was able to see Josh multiple times. Incredible.
The one time I've seen Josh Canfield on as Anatole, I liked his portrayal a lot, and most of the score he sang just fine, but I was disappointed at how he doesn't seem to fully trust his falsetto. He didn't seem entirely comfortable with the falsetto parts in "Letters," and he attempted to belt his final "Petersburg" note, which...did not quite work, let's just say. On the other hand, there were parts that he did that I thought were better than Lucas Steele, for instance his reactions during the confrontation with angry Pierre.
Lucas may be my favorite part of the show, but I'd be shocked if he renewed. As others have said, he's been with the show for so long. I'm going again in December and I'd love to see him again, but I'd be shocked if he was still there

I think that's too individual to even comment upon.
