Hi all! I will be in NYC for a brief 24 hours (job interview!) this week. I am hoping to see a Wednesday matinee show. I will be free to go get tickets around 11:30 am/12 pm. Do you have any shows you'd recommend I try to get rush tickets for?

I monitor these boards a lot and so far I'm thinking Bandstand or Miss Saigon might still have tickets available then. Possibly Anastasia?

I also want to see The Great Comet, but I'm assuming rush tickets will be long gone by then and I'll need to opt for discounted tickets through TodayTix or something similar.

Any insight you have is appreciated! Thank you.

Groundhog Day will also have rush tickets available.

I'm not sure if you were looking exclusively for a musical, but when I rushed the Play that Goes Wrong earlier this month, there were certainly still tickets available around 11:30. It's a truly hilarious show; it actually lives up to the 'laugh your face off' hype it has been getting.

Last Thursday I was able to pick up a rush ticket for The Play That Goes Wrong at about 4:30 in the afternoon. I can't imagine you would have a problem at 11:30/12:00, should you choose to try that over a musical.

I would have thought Bandstand wouldn't be crowded but yesterday I got to A Doll's House 9:55am. There was a crowd outside Bandstand. And it was raining.

Mine was Orchestra, Row B, Seat 5, so off to the side a bit, but a better use of $30 than spending the same amount for balcony seats where I may have been more central but would have been crammed into a much smaller space in terms of leg room.

From my experience some of the (relatively good) shows that should still have rush tickets at that time include : Anastasia (sro), Bandstand, if you get there before 11:30 then try the Book of Mormon in-person lottery which is quite easy to win, Groundhog Day, Kinky Boots (sro), Miss Saigon, and play that goes wrong! Enjoy!

Anastasia is definitely a choice, but I believe you'll most likely get SRO tickets, since I don't think they have a rush (unless they do now; but I think it's just SRO).  The cast are wonderful, and the set is beautiful.

Like others have said, Play That Goes Wrong is absolutely wonderful.  I saw the show a few weeks ago, and my rush seat was located in Orchestra row A (the second row) right in the center.  I thought it was a fabulous seat, and it was the most hilarious thing I've seen.

A Bronx Tale is also a good choice.  I also rushed this show a few weeks ago, and I actually ran by the theatre maybe 20 or so minutes before curtain because my prior plans with friends fell through at the very last second.  I got a ticket no problem, and there was at least one other person who got a rush ticket behind me!  My seat was located in Orchestra row AA (the first row) on the aisle of the center section.  It was marked as partial view, but I honestly loved being that close to the stage, especially because a lot happens at the front of the stage.  This show doesn't get much love on these boards, but I have to say that it was a great experience.  Sure, it doesn't do anything revolutionary, but it was a well-done musical with a good score that captures the mood and soul of the period, a great cast, and wonderful choreography.  I do have to admit that I believe my being so close to the stage made the experience all that more exhilarating and enjoyable, but I am sure that I still would have enjoyed the show from any seat.

This is another play suggestion, but I also really enjoyed Indecent.  Its run is ending in a few weeks, so I've been recommending it to as many people as possible.  It is an incredibly artfully done piece that tells a beautiful, important, and relevant story.  I rushed the show and didn't have a problem getting a ticket; from my understanding, rush tickets for this show are usually in the first row or two of the orchestra, and then in the boxes.  I personally got a box seat, which was a partially obstructed view, but it wasn't bad at all.

Best of luck on your interview, and I hope you enjoy whichever show you decide on seeing!

I didn't even think about Kinky Boots - thanks so much for that additional suggestion. I've seen the Book of Mormon already, such a great show!

Since you're going on this week, if you end up deciding upon Kinky Boots then you will be seeing the Panic at the Disco's star Brendon Urie as Charlie, who leaves August 6th!

I think great comet is a very good choice for a show. While yes they will run out of rush tickets by that time there are some good discounts on broadwaybox. You could get $37 rear mezz seats. While this might not sound very pleasing it actually is the best place to see the show from in my opinion. You see everything on stage perfectly and you'll get to see all the things the actors do in the mezzanine. I would definitely do that if you want to see comet. Plus you could get your tickets before hand and won't have to worry about getting tickets day of! I also second the Groundhog Day recommendation. In my experience all the times I've rushed they have ran out of all the tickets by the time they got to everyone in the line, but others on here have said they have gotten rush tickets later so you might be able to get those.
