The new Broadway production of Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler just had its best week ever on the heels of its four Tony Award wins, including Best Revival of a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical (Ms. Midler), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Gavin Creel), and Best Costume Design of a Musical (Santo Loquasto). Its gross of $2,297,057 over eight performances is now the highest gross in the history of the entire Shubert Organization.
It probably already has recouped - just no official announcement has been made yet. Word of mouth on "Hello, Dolly!" has been the best free advertising any Broadway show has ever seen. They don't need to advertise it.
You are probably right. But it depends on what business model they are using. How much is Bette making? And the creatives are all top in their field so they must have a cut. And that supporting cast is not working for scale either.
I doubt it has recouped yet - Rudin would have announced it because it would have been record time. The show is pretty expensive to run with a cast that size. It'll happen soon.

It is the highest gross in the entire history of Shubert organization. The point has nothing to do with it beating its own record because it is now 8 shows a week. All other shows are 8 shows a week.
I'll bet it will be around the end of the summer. With Midler in it, and at what she is probably getting paid, I'll bet its breakeven is close to $1MM a week.
When she leaves, there are not a lot of people who will command anywhere near her; so, at least the breakeven will be considerably lower when the grosses go down.
Breaking records is pretty subjective: ticket prices (especially for this) are higher than ever, so not nearly as hard to break records.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Yes, but the 7-show-per-week Bette version already set the record as the highest grossing, so the only new information is they added another show which let them bring in additional money, and set a new record.

And? What is wrong with that? Why be a Debbie downer? I guess one could turn every win into a "it only happened because of this".

I don't see how that is being a downer. The show already beat the Shubert record in its third week of previews.
And this is technically the third time they have subsequently beat that initial record.
If you want to celebrate it this time, have at it!

"Bette's making over a $100k a week plus a % of the grosses

Good for her.
"
I'd guess and say Murphy's first show grossed around$250K. Not bad.
