So they're doing a reading of Moulin Rouge this fall directed by Alex Timbers. I think the material is really suited to his style. Could this be fast tracked for spring?

Can we get the Comet designers for this project? It has potential to be great.

I'd love Catherine Martin to design, but if not I couldn't imagine anyone else besides Mimi Lien designing the set.

A terrible idea. So much of the effect and affect of Moulin Rouge comes from the camera work.

I'd still see it 400 times, though.

They did a second reading just last month.

I was gonna say, they've done at least one already, they had an audition round a while back. But Yeah this suits Timbers I think.

No dreamcasting yet? Moulin Rouge Bway?

Laura Benanti - if she doesn't do My Fair Lady instead, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal maybe?

They're looking for contemporary pop/rock/soul singer types which Laura is not, so I daresay she's out.

The last reading had Rebecca Naomi Jones and Benjamin Walker as the leads.

Ah, that makes sense for this score. I love Benjamin Walker for this, not a big fan of Rebecca Naomi Jones (her Yitzhak left me longing for a lot more).

Loved Rebecca Naomi Jones in Hedwig and American Idiot, but not for this.

Why? It's pop/rock score.

I've yet to see Walker in a musical, but his Brick in CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF was even worse than Terrence Howard's, which is saying something. On film, he's as entertaining as watching paint dry. Don't get Broadway's fascination with him.

Rebecca Naomi Jones as Satine is an original and delightful idea. I've been waiting for this for over a decade, really hope it comes together soon...with a great actor as Christian.

Walker was sensational in AMERICAN PSYCHO and BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON. He's an unexpected choice for this, but I'm excited to see if he continues with the project.
