Super excited to be attending this weekend, but is there any confirmation that they are letting people sit on the lawn for free?

The Broadway in Chicago performances have still gone on despite rain.

Some clarification.  The Grant Park Music Festival is basically a free weekly (Wed/Fri/Sat night) festival in downtown Chicago.  It is located in the outdoor Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park.  The venue seats about 11,000-12,000 patrons.  There are 4000 seats in the seating bowl facing the stage.  The rear area (about 2500 seats) is always free as is the lawn (7000 spaces).  The front section of the bowl (1500 seats) costs $25-$95 (depending on location) on a per night basis with an assigned seat given.  The concerts go on rain or shine (with rare bad weather exceptions).

The performance on Friday (7/21) was performed in full as the heavy rain miraculously stopped 15 minutes before the start of the concert and began again 15 minutes after the concert ended.  The concert on (7/22) tonight begins at 7:30pm and should end about 10:00pm.  Rain should hold off for the concert tonight.  There is a 30 minute pre-concert lecture at 6:30pm in the tent next to the pavilion.  Seating is open all day.

The singers were in fine form and the program as indicated in the first posting was intact with two encores at the end.

Here is the GPMF Facebook page with some videos pertaining to the concert.

I assume some Youtube postings might follow from attendees.  Hope this explains the event.

ps Broadway in Chicago has its annual performance on Monday August 14 at 6:15pm.  This also is at the Pritzker and is a free event.  It always attracts a huge crowd so get there early for bowl seating.

Slightly OT: Anyone seeing "Bandstand" this Saturday, 7/22?  Becca Petersen is on for Osnes for the first time. Her 1st cover has not been well received (vocally) and the production has split these three performances (7/21 and both shows 7/22), which seems unique for a show only 4 months in, and only a 2 day star absence (i.e. it's not an 8 show vacation, like "DEH," in which two different covers more logically appeared.)

In light of the disappointment in the first cover, the new one might be worth hearing about.
