I wouldn't be that surprised to see Ehle left out of contention. She's very good in the show, but there's almost nothing interesting about the role. The nominators might love Oslo, but I could see her getting overshadowed by women with flashier parts.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Agreed. It feels like a glorified narrator.
A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.
Ehle's performance really stuck with me since I saw Oslo last summer. I think it's marvelously subtle and insinuating. I, personally, would nominate her.

Personally I think it's great to have different threads - it's too disjointed a conversation in the "too early Tony Predictions" thread when people are jumping from talking about one category to another, with different conversations all happening at once. Just my opinion, but these individual threads are refreshing, and makes it easier to have a real conversation about a specific category.
The only way Ehle (and her co-star Mays) gets in is if the overall strength of Oslo sweeps them up. She's a wonderful actress, but there is next to nothing going on with her role. I had zero emotional connection to her and Mays' characters. The play ended and I still didnt get why the two of them went out of their way to organize the peace talks.
I think Metcalf, Linney, Blanchett, and Janney are definitely getting in. If Nixon is kept in Lead then she will make 5. If the Tony Administration puts her in Featured, then I think it'll be between Mary Louise Parker and Sally Field for the last slot. I'd say Metcalf has the edge for the win
Ehle will almost certainly get in. My money is on (in order of likelihood) Metcalf, Linney, Janney, Ehle, and Field. I think Blanchett will get left out (especially if Cynthia Nixon ends up being deemed eligible for leading).
Not to be a broken record - but I am under the impression that Johanna Day (Sweat) will be considered Leading, and if so, a very strong contender in this category.
Cate Blanchett – The Present Laura Linney – The Little Foxes Allison Janney – Six Degrees of Separation Laurie Metcalf – A Doll's House, Part 2 Mary-Louise Parker – Heisenberg
Dark Horses:Jennifer Ehle – Oslo or Sally Field – The Glass Menagerie
i hope you are kidding. Diane Lane's reviews -- while not as bad as the production -- had me wondering how she ever got the strength to go on for future performances. I saw her before heading down south for the winter and i felt bad for her, cause I really like her a lot.
I have not seen anyone other than she and Parker at this point -- tickets to 10 shows starting May 31st -- and a trip to the city in early July so far. It will be interesting to see if Laurie Metcalfe, and the play, gets reviews similar to the love on this thread. I hope so, otherwise I suspect it won't be opened by the time I can see it.
Based on reading zillions of reviews so far, I am assuming that Laura Linney is the only lock to date. While Blanchett got personal reviews worthy of a nomination, the combination of a closed show and an intensely disliked show doesn't bode well. Will also be interesting to see if Heisenberg is forgotten, since Parker was terrific and got great reviews. Field got some outstanding reviews but a good number did not like her take or the production itself. Back to Metcalf, the feedback on this site leads me to assume she deserves a nom.

My predictions are for what I think will happen in terms of nominations and wins, not necessarily what I want to occur. However, Field, Linney and Metcalf are ones I rather do hope I'm right about for at least nominations and maybe wins.
Since I have seen all three of them give terrific performances any number of times, can't say that I disagree with you, but I haven't seen any of them. Will have by June 5th. In general I do think Linney got the best reviews of the three, but that doesn't always count for much.
