I am a canadian actress, singer wanting to find my way to broadway. I have sent email auditions but haven't had any responses. As I am on the westcoast and funds are limited its a challenge to just jump on a plane to another country.

I am passionate about musical theatre and would love any advice anyone could give in regards to pursuing auditions for broadway or off broadway.

Some questions:

Do they hire from e-auditions?

Do I need to start off broadway?

Do Canadians without work visas get hired?

Do I require an agent to get an audition or be taken seriously?

If so any recommendations for reputable agencies would be appreciated.

Move to NY.  Work on getting an Equity Card.  Work on your talent.  Bust your ass making sh*t happen.  Dreaming about doesn't make things happen.

Canadian Equity members can be seen at auditions alongside American Equity members; the unions were once one organization and now have reciprocal agreements for their members. If you are hired in an American Equity production, you would have to join American Equity (though at a discounted rated) and have the necessary visa or green card to be employed in America.
