The play would be the first by Ms. Vogel to reach Broadway. Also of note: So far the current Broadway season features no new plays written by womenThe producers, Daryl Roth (“Kinky Boots”) and Elizabeth McCann ("The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?” who produced with Ms. Roth), said that in collaboration with Cody Lassen (“Spring Awakening”-), they would present “Indecent” this season if they were able to secure a theater.

I saw Indecent at the Vineyard and thought it was fantastic- impeccably staged, full of haunting imagery, and a beautiful look at the dying artform of Yiddish theater and a largely unknown piece of LGBT-related theatre history. Absolutely deserving of a Broadway transfer- and the thought that a theatrical figure such as Vogel has yet to be represented on Broadway is staggering.

I hope so- Katrina Lenk is so amazing and would love to see her back on broadway in a big way. She'll be on in The Band's Visit this Fall/Winter.

When you think about how much crap by up-and-coming men gets a transfer, it's unbelievable. Every new play by a woman on Broadway is like starting the fight all over again.

I don't disagree but where is the data to back this up?

I'd love for this to be the case, but I worry for the show's commercial prospects. But hell, maybe it will pull a Humans and make it on prestige alone.

It's even more baffling when you consider that Vogel is also the most prominent mentor and instructor of playwrights in the country. Her leadership transformed Brown/Trinity Rep and Yale's programs.

I hope they find a theater. So many shows trying to get in for this Spring and so few theaters available.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Wasn't Paula the original book writer for Waitress?

Broadwayboy, you're correct. Vogel was a member of the Waitress team up until early 2014 when she pulled out.

I echo what others have said--when you look at her history of work and contributions, it's shocking Paula Vogel's work has not been seen on a Broadway stage. But, there's no better time then the present. I hope this pans out.

Much like Vogel, it's equally as astonishing that Lynn Nottage has yet to be represented on Broadway either. RUINED not transferring after its staggering and continuously extended run at MTC remains a mystery (something I know Nottage herself has also expressed frustration with.)

Further proof that female writers are still sorely lacking in support when it comes to commercial theater.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

With Fun Home shortly closing, it would also be great to have another play written by a queer woman and about queer women.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Ruined not transferring left me totally dumb founded. Too bad, as it was a masterfully done piece.

Ruined was leagues better than Eclipsed. And the fact that An Act of God has played twice, but the women who gave us How I Learned To Drive hasn't been on Broadway is crazy. I guess Broadway = commercial and most playwrights writing wouldn't succeed in a for profit situation.

And the writers of Fun Home aren't all queer, FYI.

Ruined not transferring is really, truly puzzling. Seemed like such a no-brainer. ...Particularly now, when producers are taking risks with productions like The Humans or Significant Other or Hand to God.

Hopefully it will not be a decision to be repeated if Sweat is as much of a success.

Ruined was in 2009, no? The economy was in shambles.

That didn't stop IRENA'S VOW or REASONS TO BE PRETTY from transferring that season...

Ruined opened in early 2009 at MTC's off-Broadway space and ran- through 9 extensions- until that September.

The 2009-2010 season was indeed inauspicious for Broadway, in terms of content (this was the year of Memphis). Nevertheless, new plays like Race, Looped, Superior Donuts, A Behanding in Spokane, Next Fall, Red, A Steady Rain, and Enron received commercial productions.

I know. This is just a case where correlation doesn't necessarily prove causation.

Aren't we forgetting that MTC has a Broadway space of their own, which makes the whole thing even more puzzling. I mean, they transferred Venus in Fur, which wasn't even them, to Broadway. But not a play of such success? weird.
