I don't play the game, but obviously lots of people do. I've read articles about people playing it in all sorts of inappropriate places, including Arlington National Cemetery and the Holocaust Museum. Has this craze made its way into Broadway houses yet? Are people "battling" or "powering up" at inappropriate times (i.e. during the show)? Our local performing arts center (Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center, here in Orlando) has embraced it, and announced on their official facebook page where the Pokestops at the complex are.
As I was walking on 8th Avenue tonight, I noticed lures had been set at Studio 54, the Samuel Friedman Theatre, and the Majestic Theatre, and it was about 7:45.
EDIT: Oh, and there was a lure set at IATSE! Haha.

I knew it was only a matter of time. What's a lure, by the way? Is that something you do in the game? I just learned today that my job is a gym.
It has turned normal people into zombies. Some of the fun places visited, I have heard, are a concentration camp & The WTC site. This apparently does not bother either the developers or the mindless hordes who will literally walk into traffic while they feed their addiction to play this mindless game.
With all the other b.s. to distract those at a show, we now have to put up with these mindless idiots.Maybe they can play it while walking over the railing of the GW bridge or over the railing at the Empire State Building. Some of these mindless robots would probably do it without hesitation.

I agree. I'm playing Pokemon Go (not seriously, but for a bit every day), and I enjoy the advent of AR and the progress of gaming technology... but it'd be nice if the social media teams of shows didn't come so close to encouraging it.
Note to those that don't know anything about the gyms/stops: there is no need to go inside the buildings..anything that happens, happens outside.
That doesn't mean there might not be a pokemon hiding inside a theater, however. I'm looking forward to be in NYC next week to see if there are different pokemon there then what I see a lot in my own neighborhood! But we won't have our phones on during the show....because we never have our phones on during a show.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

A high school friend currently in PHANTOM posted about this today. If it was going to happen during the show, let's face it, it was going to happen at the Majestic first.
I do want to say that the app is not all bad, it's getting people walking, talking and out of their house. While there are the ones who need to realize that they need to look around and be respectful, those are the onew tainting what otherwise could be a force for good.
I appoligise for any spelling mistakes. I may be on my mobile. Clumsy fingers and small little touchscreen keys don't mixx. I try to spellcheck, but I may miss something.
And to be honest, as long as someone isn't playing during the show, it's not much different than one having their phone on for any other reason - except for possibly walking around the theater. Again....if its not during the show or being rude to others, who cares?

That is until you get someone so entitled who demands to be let in the theater during the show to get the Pokemon. But, I realize the likelihood of them actually getting in is very slim.
I tried the app out of curiosity mostly. I have a feeling it isn't good if you live in a rural area.

Also, Marianne2, I agree. Unless you're only playing while on wifi (which I'm doing, to conserve data), and the theatre is one with free wifi, AND you are incredibly desperate, I don't know why you'd bother to do this. You can probably catch it from outside!

When ;there's a pokemon in your building/home it can easily be captured by being on the sidewalk outside.
Yes, ISIS hates us because of a game.

As long as people aren't walking around during the show with their phones out (and I admit, I put nothing past certain people), it's no different than being on your phone before the show or during intermission.
