Not sure if there is already a thread on this...I'm sure there is. But with Tony time coming up. I'm curious who has the most nominations without a win? Be it an actor or set designer. I was just thinking that this is Danny Burnstein's sixth nomination without a win yet.
This year Jane Greenwood received her 20th nomination (for LONG DAY's JOURNEY). She hasn't won yet. She did receive a Lifetime Achievement Tony in 2014 -- but it would be great to see her receive a competitive award.
In terms of performers, yes Danny Burstein has the most nominations with no wins (6) - so far. If he wins on Sunday, then that honor will be a six-way tie for 5 nominations/no wins for Tom Aldredge, Dana Ivey, Jan Maxwell, John McMartin, Estelle Parsons, and George C. Scott.
I don't know if any of you saw Danny Burstein's recent Show People episode with Paul Wontorek, but he did talk about how some of the greats such as Tom Aldredge, John McMartin (both coincidentally played the Narrator/Mysterious Man in Into the Woods), and George C. Scott never won Tonys despite being nominated five times. @9:46: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8SCBfXtDu4&list=PL_2Wk1WlmEyQqd_lX9J-RKns1FQXX3N6i&index=156
I've said this before and I'll say it again. 6 tony award nominations should just equal one tony award. So once you get your sixth nom they should just hand you a tony.

for the last decade I always thought Kelli O'Hara and Amy Adams were kind of modern-day Susans at the Tonys and Oscars respectively, each having received five nominations beginning in 2005 with no wins for either of them. of course then Kelli had to go and steal Kristin's Tony last year. so i guess technically Danny is currently the Susan Lucci of the Tony Awards.

I don't think I've ever read such an absurd proposition before.

That's fun. They could make punchcards like the ones you get at coffee shops for frequent customers - if you lose, just get your card stamped after the show and come back five more times for a free award!

I've said this before and I'll say it again : that's stupid.

"As stupid as this proposition is, it did make me laugh (which I think was the purpose).

What I find amusing is that there is no mass hysteria about Danny possibly losing again and becoming the record holder. It shows how much we worship our divas because last year everyone was on the edge of their seat wondering if Kelli would lose and hold the record. I think it would be great to see Danny finally win.

Like a punch card?

This comes from people who grew up in the generation where everyone gets a participation trophy for youth soccer.

Michael Riedel did report in his column that more than a few voters told him that they marked their votes for Danny Burstein. It may have only been a portion of Tony voters he talked to, but it at least still seems Burstein may have a chance this year.
