I had ticket for June 24th performance of American Psycho.... sigh....

So now I find myself with a free Friday night and not sure what to see.  On this particular trip I've got tickets to:
Waitress - She Loves Me - Shuffle Along - Hamilton

Bright Star is at top of list, but I'm nervous now that it might not be around either. Should I take a chance and buy a ticket?

Do any of these strike you as a "do not miss on Broadway" experience:  Beautiful - Color Purple - Fiddler - Matilda - Les Mis (no I have not seen it).

Or go see a play?  The Crucible would interest me and/or Fully Committed for something lighthearted.

Any and all words of wisdom would be appreciated.

If something is at the top of your list, lock the ticket it now, worry about it later...

That said, if you didn't see Matilda yet, I really enjoyed it.

I'm in town the same week (well, the 21st thru 24th) and your list of shows replicates mine! If I were you, I would fill the slot with Fun Home. I only had 4 slots but deeply considered seeing it again. I have heard fantastic things about Marin in King and I as well as Heather in Purple.

Of the ones you mentioned I recommend Matilda especially since it closes in January. Matilda also has a lot of good ticket deals as well at the moment. If you haven't seen Fun Home or the King and I, I'd recommend those as well.

I've seen Fun Home - was amazing!  The King & I.... hmmm forgot about that one.  Color Purple does intrigue me. I know nothing about the musical other than the principal cast.  Only saw the movie eons ago.

The Color Purple 100%

The Color Purple. It definitely fits the "do not miss" prompt more than any of the others.

The King and I is great. And this production is great. But the audiences are getting more unruly and honestly Daniel is my least favorite of the kings I've seen though Marin is quite good.

Bright Star 100%. Things like Beautiful, Matilda, and Les Mis will undoubtedly be around in some form or another for a long time. Sure the two latter are closing on Broadway, but Matilda's tour will be going for a good while, and it's very likely that Les Mis will tour again. I also wouldn't be surprised of the Color Purple stuck around for at least another year, and launched a national tour. Bright Star is a wholly original musical, and Carmen Cusack is giving a masterclass performance 8 times a week. The only way to get the original musicals we all hope for every season is to support them while we can, and in my opinion, Bright Star is worth getting behind.

My sister and I are in the same boat with the closure of AP, but our free slot was on Sunday night (since AP had a Sunday night show on June 26).  This limits us even more to try to fill our now vacant show slot. I saw Hadestown at NYTW has a Sunday evening show that week, but we already got tickets to the Saturday matinee.

The Color Purple.

I would say Bright Star first and if that ends up closing (hopefully not!!!) definitely the Color Purple. I am concerned it may not be as easy to catch in the future as the Color Purple, which seems likely to be around awhile.

I've seen Matilda an embarrassing amount of times and others are good options too..but you need to see The Color Purple with THIS CAST. It's just spectacular.

Bright Star 100%. I really hope it'll be around through the summer (right now grosses are still a bit too low but on a steady upwards trend, if it continues it'll break even soon).

I love Matilda as well, but you could probably catch it on tour some time. Bright Star might tour eventually (I could see it playing well in the regions), but nothing is announced yet. Since you already want to see it, lock it in and hope for the best!

It honestly makes me so sad that this is a thread! Poor AP. Anyway, if I were you, I would see Matilda. With it's closing announced, I believe that it would be a show not to miss. I loved the touring production in Chicago, but as usual, the Broadway version has a much higher quality set. That's not to say that I've seen the show in New York, but the pictures on Yelp look HEAVENLY. I loved the show, and I mean LOVED! I highly recommend it, but it'll probably stay in London for much longer than the B'way production did, so don't feel pressured into seeing it. Enjoy your trip. :)

You just have got to see The Color Purple.  Even if you saw the original production, it feels like a completely different show and Cynthina Erivo is incredible so go now. Also consider Fun Home if you haven't seen it yet.

The Color Purple or Bright Star.   You can't go wrong with either one.

If you have not seen Matilda, I would definitely see that. I also second the both The Color Purple and Bright Star are not to be missed.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.  I'm going to follow my heart and go with Bright Star.  I really do believe in supporting the shows that are up against the Goliath's.  If it doesn't work out - Color Purple it is!   Still bummed about AP closing, but everything happens for a reason.  Looking forward to Bright Star :)

Hope everyone else out there with American Psycho tickets finds their Bright Star!
