I am currently looking for a song to sing at the before graduation ceremony gathering....the whole senior class meets in the auditorium for reflections. The suggested categories for reflections are....

  • Change
  • Find your passion (or passion in general)
  • Dream big
  • Pride
  • Friendship
  • Persistence
  • Respect
  • You don't need to be perfect                    if anyone could list a few songs to help me out, that would be awesome!!! Thanks

It's not a Broadway song, but I'd suggest This Time from Glee. I think it would make a great fit for a graduation, just like it did in the series. Good luck!

Climb Ev'ry Mountain and You'll Never Walk Alone were the ones I thought of immediately. Do you have a certain range/style/genre/era that you want to perform?

so I smile like Mona Lisa and I lay my Visa down

I seem to recall that "Astonishing" from Little Women was used in a number of graduation ceremonies and senior recitals for a couple years after it opened.

"The Hills of Tomorrow" from MERRILY though written as a chorale could easily be done as a solo though it's very very short.

Personally, I would go with I Dreamed A Dream or She Used to Be Mine, but well... I guess you can do Seasons of Love, which works pretty well as a solo if you can handle it and many people can also relate to it since almost everyone knows it.

I Dreamed a Dream?  She Used to Be Mine?  Those are both fabulous songs, but not quite inspirational -- or anything near to it.  They are disillusionment songs,.

For Good, from Wicked, is typcially a duet, but could be arranged as a solo.

It's an oldie but A Quiet Thing from Flora And The Red Menace.

When it all come true
Just the way you planned
It's funny but the bells don't ring
It's a quiet thing
When you hold the world
In your trembling hand
You think you'd hear a choir singing
But it's a quiet thing
There are no exploding fire works
Where's the roaring of the crowd
Maybe it's the strange new atmosphere
Way up here among the clouds

Happiness comes in on tiptoe
Well, what do you know
It's a quiet thing

A very quiet thing.
