Just found this video of Stockard singing a song from her time in the show. I've never heard her "sing" and always wondered what kind of quality she has/had.

Seriously? You never watched her in the now-iconic 1978 film adaptation of the Broadway musical GREASE where she sings both "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" and the almighty "There Are Worst Things I Could Do"?!!!
Saying that Stockard was "singing" in "Grease" is an insult to the word "singing."
Any role that is performed by Rosie O'Donnell is not a "singing" role.
And nsguy45: You are so right. Apparently nasal was the belting technique in 1980. But she must have acted the hell out of the role. Ethel must have been wondering what happened to the good old days of Broadway.
My favorite Stockard singing moment is hands down her layered performance as a Swedish maid in a muppet christmas special. A woman with a heavy Swedish accent that all but disappears everytime she opens her mouth to sing...
Actually I thought Stockard did a fine job in the Roundabout revival of PAL JOEY a decade ago. (OK, just checked-- it was 2008.) Not a gorgeous instrument per se, but her legit pipes and her flawless acting still made the part pop.
