Has there been any announcement if this show will get a cast album? I know the dancing is the biggest draw, but I would pay good money to get a copy of Audra singing her 11 o clock number 'Memories of You" (I think that was the name of it...) Anybody have any information?
I saw the show again this afternoon and thought during it that this show would greatly benefit from doing a live cast recording, like ON YOUR FEET just did.
Haven't heard anything official, but I can't imagine the show NOT getting a cast recording. Especially since there really isn't a definitive recording of the original productions of Shuffle Along. This will be their opportunity to really capture these songs in all their glory.

I agree. I wanna hear that tapping.
And I want a lot of dialogue. "
This is the perfect type of recording for PS Classics to do, especially as a 2-disc album. I love Caroline or Change's complete show was recorded and this Wolfe show not only deserves but would benefit from the same type of recording. I'm sure it takes tons of time and money to do something like that - in or out of the studio - but based on how so much of the book and dialogue is weaved throughout this show's score, it seems perfect.
Nonesuch produced the 8-track recording that was sent around to Tony Voters (which was recorded live, so the tapping is all there), so I'm not surprised that they'll be doing the full recording.
There doesn't seem to be much point in releasing a recording of this now unless it were to help inspire other productions of the show. But given how difficult it would be for most theaters to mount this, I doubt that would be likely.

It's weird to me that a cast recording wasn't a priority. Part of the point of the show seemed to be rescuing the show and it's creative team from obscurity and without a cast recording it would seem that both the original Shuffle Along and this new Shuffle Along will soon drift back into obscurity.
Arguing that a recording of this show would rescue the score of Shuffle Along doesn't really make sense - the score of Shuffle Along, Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed isn't the same score as Shuffle Along, not to mention that the arrangements and orchestrations for the handful of songs that are from the original are so different as to make them practically different songs.
There's no buzz since, as has been reported for months now, it is not happening. That means that there will be no buzz. Ever. That's what happens when something isn't going to happen. It becomes buzz-less.
