I think I read somewhere where Disney was considering turning this into a musical and I was thinking to myself, how will they get those big battles onto the stage? I guess we'll see if they do.

Here's a list of "Best Novels That Take Place in China". I looked to see which of these were also made into popular movies. "The Painted Veil" is on the list, and I also notice "Empire of the Sun" and "Lost Horizon". Lost Horizon might be an interesting option.
SOmeone on Facebook suggested Slumdog Billionaire, which has me far less excited but is based on a novel, and while China is the fast *growing* movie market, this was just a random quote so he could have meant the massive Bollywood market...
