I don't think I'm giving away any spoilers but the X Files really had a change of pace episode Monday night. Worth a look, I'd watch Kumail Nanjiani read, well, it's not the phonebook anymore...he's a blast.
I loved this episode. I'd never seen The X Files before this mini-series, so I missed all the in-jokes, but it was super fun. Rhys Darby as the lizard especially so.
All three of the episodes so far have been so different from each other, I'm wondering which is closest to the original series (which I will definitely be checking out!) - and I hope the next three are as good.
Beyoncé is not an ally. Actions speak louder than words, Mrs. Carter. #Dubai #$$$
Jay...the episodes so far have are pretty representative of how things were with the original series. The series alternated between the main conspiracy plot and stand alone episodes. The stand alone episodes usually dealt with some sort of monster or supernatural being. And their tone varied from creepy, scary, to quirky and funny. Have fun catching up!
Duchovny and Anderson are so masterful at this point in their careers, it's just a pleasure to listen to their dialogue.
Agreed, particularly Gillian Anderson. Outrageous that she was initially offered only half of her co-star's salary.
The work Anderson put into securing equal pay back in the ’90s seemingly came undone when it came time to negotiate pay for this year’s event series. Once again, Anderson was being offered “half” of what they would pay Duchovny.
“I’m surprised that more [interviewers] haven’t brought that up because it’s the truth,” Anderson says of the pay disparity, first disclosed in the Hollywood Reporter. “Especially in this climate of women talking about the reality of [unequal pay] in this business, I think it’s important that it gets heard and voiced. It was shocking to me, given all the work that I had done in the past to get us to be paid fairly. I worked really hard toward that and finally got somewhere with it.
“Even in interviews in the last few years, people have said to me, ‘I can’t believe that happened, how did you feel about it, that is insane.’ And my response always was, ‘That was then, this is now.’ And then it happened again! I don’t even know what to say about it.”
She stammers for a moment, at a loss for words. “It is… sad,” she finally says. “It is sad.”
And boy, is she going to make FOX pay for that mistake. Before the season premiere, she said how she'd like to do more episodes. Now she's saying how she's not sure she could with things like location and pay being a factor. You can tell she's already starting to play the game with them and given what the ratings have been for the first 3 episodes, she can write her own paycheck for upcoming seasons.
I'll have to watch this episode now that I know Darin Morgan wrote it. I was never a fan of the show, except for the episodes he wrote, which are absolutely brilliant, and which are almost like a separate series within the series.
