I know we live in a world where "gift" has become a verb, but stars are paying tribute to David Bowie, as are fans outside NYTW.

What is your point, FindingNamo?  That tribute as a noun is a newfangled construction?  Because it's not.  And neither is paying tribute.

But maybe you mean something else.  Did someone suggest it was a verb or use it as such?

Or it can mean "here is the fans' tribute....." in which case it makes sense.

This is not even the first time I've seen this use of "tribute" in a BWW story.  It may have been used by the same writer as well, Mr. Walter McBride.  Unless his editor wrote the headline.  Do they even have editors here?
