If you don't watch "Steven Universe" already (and there are plenty of reasons you should watch it), know that Patti LuPone appeared in tonight's episode as Yellow Diamond, the big villain that has been built up for half a season. It would be easy to joke about why she's perfect to play an evil overlord, but her performance is greater than what I expected for this character, so I will not make any.
The show has produced somefantasticmusicalnumbers. I have no idea how they could find a way to justify Patti's character getting a song, but I have faith they can do it.

I saw the new episode tonight and I think Patti LuPone is perfectly cast as Yellow Diamond and I wonder if the other Diamonds are going to be played by Broadway actresses/singers as well.
I've been saying for quite some time that I would LOVE for Patti to voice the villain in a Disney movie, so even though I don't watch Steven Universe, I'm excited that she almost got there.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

While I was watching it, I kept going, "Man, that sounds so much like Patti, but it can't be here." Then I confirmed it and started screaming about it on Facebook.
For everyone who doesn't watch regularly, the show also features Susan Egan in a recurring role and Deedee Magno Hall as a series regular. The show pretty much casts all the roles with singers because there's so much (really fantastic) music. Cool non-Broadway folks in the cast include Estelle as a series regular, Kate Micucci as a recurring role, and Nicki Minaj as a guest in one ep.
There's no way they got Patti without having plans to give her a song. I'm psyched.

Adding on to that, there's the fact the fusions have been voiced by singers (Aimee Mann, Nicki Minaj, Alexia Khadime). I wonder if Patti is meant to set a similar track where the diamonds are played by Broadway stars. (Would that add credence to the "Rose is Pink Diamond" theory?)

I doubt that they're necessarily going for a "Broadway star" theme for diamonds as much as they just cast singers across the board for their roles, either because they have songs planned or just in case they do so in the future.

You're probably right. In retrospect, the singers they hire for the fusions are not all famous. (Rita Rani Ahuja, the voice of Alexandrite, is not even a singer, which I did not realize.) I was just speculating.

I recently watched the first half of season 1 and I unfortunately couldn't get into the show (so I missed Patti unfortunately). glad to hear she'll be singing though!
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
The song starts around 4:07. Also of possible note to this board I suppose is that another character in this arc of episodes, Holly Blue Agate, is voiced by Christine Pedi, who I know does Forbidden Broadway stuff, is a host on On Broadway on Sirius, among other things.
