Hey everyone,

I'm planning a big Broadway trip for this April, and wanted to get some opinions about what the most worthwhile shows to see are. Here are the ones I'm currently interested in;

Hamilton

Fiddler on the Roof

The King and I

She Loves Me

The Crucible

School of Rock

Disaster

Waitress

thoughts? Which shows are you guys most excited for?

Of those listed, we only saw King. It is a top notch production in every way. See it if you can. No idea 're the rest .They either have not opened or we did not see or plan to see the rest.

SHE LOVES ME is a classic show with a knockout cast put on by a top notch production company.

Saw last revival of She Loves Me.Based on that, it would indeed be a good choice.

The King and I and Fiddler on the Roof are not to be missed.

I saw Waitress in Cambridge and can't recommend it highly enough.

Thanks for the recommendations! I decided on Waitress, She Loves Me, Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I, and School of Rock (no luck with Hamilton tickets, of course). But i'm looking into adding another show...out of The Color Purple and American Psycho, which would you choose? Has anyone seen either of them yet?

I haven't seen either, but out of the two I would personally choose American Psycho.

The Color Purple has great reviews and word of mouth, and would not be a bad choice at all from what I'm hearing.

American Psycho has music done by Duncan Sheik, who did music for Spring Awakening, so if you enjoy that show then Psycho might be a good pick for you. (Sheik is the reason I would pick it, I absolutely love Spring Awakening.)

I would think you'd be pleased either way.

Most of the folks here that have seen The Color Purple have had wonderful things to say.  American Psycho hasn't begun performances here yet...so any reports are from the UK run.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Depending on the amount of time you have, I would strongly recommend the cancellation line for Hamilton.  If you get there early enough, you will get tickets.

Not to be confused with Dave19.

Substitute Something Rotten for Hamilton. Since you will be unable to get tickets for the big H ,Rotten would be a good fallback option.

I absolutely loved the color purple revival. I thought it improves the show so much. I'm also excited for American Psycho but of course haven't seen it. You probably can't go wrong.

Having just seen School of Rock I don't think it's a must-see with limited time. The kids are really talented and the story is cute, but it's in no way a knock-out. Something Rotten on the other hand is straight out hilarious, and I would recommend it anyone.

If you're down to see an Off-Broadway show, I would also highly recommend Daddy Long Legs.

I too am planning an April trip. So far I have tickets for Hamilton, Shuffle Along, Waitress, Blackbird, and Streetcar. Have spots for 2 more. Deciding between The Color Purple, She Loves me, American Psycho, and possible Something Rotten. So many options, limited time. Any suggestions would be appreciated

This is about the best production I can imagine of The Color Purple with glorious singing all around and a truly wonderful performance from Cynthia Erivo.

She Loves Me is a limited run, so if you want to see that, this will be your only chance. I don't know how often you visit, but all the others are open ended runs. Color Purple is all about this cast though, so maybe pick those two. While I love Something Rotten it looks like it will be around, and will probably tour (did they announce one already), and while the cast is great, I don't think it's essential to the production.

My favorite Broadway show right now is Something Rotten! It's so unique and fun, and I've seen a lot of theatre lately. But if you want to try Off-Broadway, I HIGHLY recommend Daddy Long Legs! It's such a beautiful show- definitely check it out!
