Ouch

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

And Hamilton still had a bump! That thing's a monster!

Dames At Sea/Spring Awakening/Les Miserables are pulling in baaaaad numbers. Spring Awakening's a limited run, but I can't see Dames surviving the winter and the rumors of Miss Saigon replacing Les Mis in the Imperial are looking fairly founded now.

Good for Misery and On Your Feet!: they're doing pretty well. I would've thought Keira Knightely would've been a bigger pull for Therese Raquin. And how exactly did Hamilton's gross increase?

I knew the grosses would go down this week but poor Dames and Spring Awakening!

I won't be surprised if Dames doesn't make it through the holidays. Very sad about Spring Awakening's numbers, too.

When should we suspect a closing announcement for les miz?

Les Mis had one bad week. Calm down. I predict it will close September 2016 or January 2017 for a Fall 2016 or Spring 2017 opening of Miss Saigon, but if the show is still making money, I can't imagine Cameron being in a rush to close.

Their lottery for the evening show on Halloween is the largest lottery I've ever seen for that show. We even had to wait a few minutes after 6 just so the rest of the line could enter the lottery before picking names. So, yeah, they are playing by their own rules.

Poor Hand to God's numbers are abysmal! I hope Bob Saget can give them a boost.

Does make sense, also why would Cameron Mackintosh put one of his other shows in the same theater right after Les Miz closes?

Miss Saigon would fit well in that theatre. I'm assuming he is going to transfer the whole London production and bring it to New York. Some of the Les Mis set will probably go on tour Fall 2016 or 2017

This is just a lottery question in general not just for Hamilton, but when your in the lottery you obviously have to pay x amount. Is the money the show makes from the lottery included on the grosses? Also how much higher would grosses be if it included sales of souvenirs?

I don't think the Imperial's the problem: I think everyone is just a bit Les Mis'd out. It really was not in need of a revival. And Miss Saigon was acclaimed in London and that's a show that people aren't sick of yet.

I would suspect that a major reason for the overall slump might be the fact that all the hotels etc, were filled with marathoners who would not be ticket-buyers, and the regular Broadway-going tourists were squeezed out. Here's hoping that there's a healthy bounce ahead!

Very dire grosses for a good many shows.  sad

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I respectfully disagree—I think the 2013 film brought immense hype and discourse back around to the Les Miz brand, which ostensibly warranted a revival. The problem is that we're now almost three years after the fact. I personally don't really understand why there was a revival in 2006/2007. However, I do think the time is nigh for this current production and I could bear a decade or two without the show before a really killer revival brings it home (sorry, couldn't resist).

Halloween on a Saturday (which means lots of Friday parties too)

World Series in town

Marathon

Broadway didn't stand a chance. The only thing missing was that the pope wasn't here.

Yes.

"Also how much higher would grosses be if it included sales of souvenirs?"

They would go up by the amount of merch they sold that week. Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/1/15
