How well have you been paying attention to New York theater this month? Answer these 11 quiz questions and let us know how you do. (It's a tough one this month.)
"The two questions about critics seem to be stumping nearly everybody"
I've never heard of Show Score either. For one thing, I don't read reviews before I see the show if I'm planning on seeing the show (though sometimes I take a quick peek at didhelikeit). For another, I just stick to a few reviews. I used to always read the Times if I was going to read a review but their pay wall is annoying so I avoid them now more often than not. I've read a couple of Jesse Green reviews lately but I don't really recognize most of the names listed as multiple choice options.
Bryan It was a tough one. Next month's will be easier
Sauja and Vintage -- As I point out in the quiz, Show Score just launched in September (hence the mention in the September quiz), so not many people have heard of it yet. You should check it out because it gives quick synopses of the reviews -- with the option to visit the full review if you want -- just like Metacritic for the movies...or what Stage Grade used to do.
Here's the link to the homepage (I think) - http://www.show-score.com/shows. (If that doesn't work, just Google "Show Score")
And (pardon me for doing this), the link to one critic's page -- bit.ly/1QCx5uY
There are all sorts of stuff you can do -- like follow an individual critic or actor or theater company, and get notices when they have something new. As a member (it's free to join), you can also review shows yourself, sort of -- just a score and a few words. I'm not sure whether all that overcomplicates things, and how it will pan out, but it's exciting to have a disinterested, seemingly comprehensive New York theater review aggregation site again.
(Maybe I should start a separate thread on Show Score!)
