Hello Lovely People...  I need help.  I saw The Flick on Saturday and I am now obsessed with all things Annie Baker. I ordered her book of 4 plays off Amazon.  I went to buy tix to "John" last night and it closed!  I am so sad.  Does anyone know if there are plans to reopen it somewhere else?  Any information about any of her other plays would be great.

From what I understand, it was a rather long play which relied on the immediate buzz of good reviews in the Times and the New Yorker. So I don't expect it will be back in a sizable house soon, perhaps maybe a university production in a few months from now and another brief run next year.

Despite being a strong candidate for a long NYC stay, JOHN was always a limited run, as all Signature subscription season shows are.  Have any Signature productions ever transferred elsewhere?

Old Hats played at A.C.T. in San Francisco but as a general rule, the shows not transferring is almost always true. Wonder if that's because of the way the shows are set up or because their shows can, at least in my experience vary greatly in quality and their shows tend to be more suited to smaller houses. Once they've played one 250 seat theatre in New York, there really isn't usually a compelling need to play another.

According to Amazon, John is scheduled for publishing in April 2016 by TCG. I know that's not a production, but some small consolation for those that missed it.

Does Lincoln Center ever film off-Broadway plays? Maybe you should check to see if they filmed John.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Thanks.  Everyone was so helpful.  Did any of you actually see it?

The Signature Theatre advertised it as a "world premier". Just seems like it would be staged again... Someday.  Somewhere.

Gah. I'm so sad I missed it.

They do indeed film some Off-Broadway shows (my first Off-Broadway show was filmed back in 2009), so it is worth checking to see if they got this one.

Ok, I'm not too knowledgeable about this stuff.  I didn't know shows were filmed and saved at all.  Is it like a library? How could I check? Is there a website? Sorry for so many questions.

glittergrrl: I think you can just call up the Lincoln Center Theatre on Film and Tape Archive at (212) 870-1642 and ask them about a title. It's the 3rd floor of the Library.

I think you might have to be a Union member or a student with an assignment or a researcher to view the films they have. I don't think anyone can just walk in or make an appointment but ask them that when you call.

I did actually see JOHN twice and loved it. I hope they filmed it too!

You don't necessarily have to prove your credentials when you make an appointment- they don't check for a student ID or proof of your employment or anything.
