Interesting read from Lin Manuel about a new screenplay floating around for ITH. One of the studios concerns was that there was no star attached to the film. I haven't seen the show but wasn't J.Lo attached at one time? If they need a "star" who do you think could lead it?

I would really like for this to happen soon! I loved Heights (more than Hamilton).

Who would JLo play? She's too old for either of the female leads.

I thought the new plan was for a lower budget, so a star would not be needed.  That said, JLo could play Daniela.  Wouldn't mind seeing Naya Rivera as Nina.  Maybe Antonio Banderas as Kevin?

Naya would be good for this show/movie, but I can see her as more of a Vanessa.

I don't particularly care for her, but Ariana Grande would do a good job as Nina and draw a crowd.

Both Vanessa and Nina are supposed to be 19 and if the film does go in to production, it probably won't be for another couple of years so Naya would be too old by then.

I’m actually surprise that their budget was so high to begin with.  Even their new potential budget of 15 million still seems a little high to me. I always envision this film to be a low-budget production (just in cost, not in quality). JLo last film’s budget was actually only 4 million so having a lower budget doesn’t necessary take her off the table.

Lin-Manuel will probably make a cameo in this film. If they wanted to give him more of a substantial role though, I can see them casting him as the Piragua Guy as there’s really no define age for that role. However, I could also see them cutting that whole storyline out for time.

I'm pretty sure Vanessa is not given a specific age. They don't say she's 19.

She strikes me as more of a Carla.

"I'm pretty sure Vanessa is not given a specific age. They don't say she's 19. "

In the book that high school/theaters buy to get the book/music, they have a short description of each character and both Nina and Vanessa are listed as 19. (Benny and Usnavi were listed as 25 in case anyone wanted to know) Also while not explicitly said in the show, Nina's age we can guess around 18/19 since she just finished her freshmen year in college and Vanessa is her best friend so we can assume they are around the same age. I suppose you can pass Vanessa off as someone in her early 20s but probably not any older.

I'm very familiar with In the Heights, I know Nina is a freshman in college. My point was that they don't say how old Vanessa is. You're right, I wouldn't make her much older, but she could be older.

I actually misspoke, it wasn't in the In The Heights book, it was in the Stage Notes guide.

OK, you're just proving my point, as that's specifically for schools.

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times: Rita or Chita for Abuela Claudia. (Or, if you want to skew it a little younger, go with Sonia Manzano. She's freshly retired from Sesame Street, has theater chops, and could use the work.)

Thankfully, I know the lyrics to the Heights songs, so I wouldn't need her pronunciation skills to help me along...

I'd love to see Sofia Vergara as Daniella actually!

Eh, I don't think a guide for schools means they changed anything to be aim at high schoolers. Or why have Daniela be in her 30s when she could be seen as being younger? Or make Vanessa under the drinking age when she's buying alcohol in the show?

I don't even know what you're talking about at this point, but it has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.

Oh my goodness this is the first thread where I love all the casting ideas! I especially want Lin to play the piragua guy. It makes the webseries reality show that much better.

So I was just watching How I met your Mother, specifically the episode where LMM guest stared. I then went on to IMDB and looked at LMM's page (didn't know if he was credited as a writer-(the whole episode rhymes) ) and the first thing that came up was the In the Heights Movie, with LMM credited as playing Usavi.
