I'll be coming to the UK in late October/early November and will have five nights in London (11/6 through the 10th.) Are there any shows I should particularly try to see? I get to NYC quite often so have already seen, for example, Matilda, Curious Incident, Billy Elliott, Wicked, 39 Steps and Once. Would love to see something that hasn't gotten to NY yet or may not get there at all. I've been thinking about Gypsy; I have seen it with Patti LuPone but I hear Imelda Staunton is wonderful. I'm interested in both musicals and plays. Also love Shakespeare.
Recent favorites in NYC were Hedwig, Fun Home, Curious Incident, On the 20th Century and Something Rotten.
Imelda Staunton's performance in GYPSY is the greatest performance I have ever seen on a West End stage (in almost 50 years of theatre-going). The entire cast are also outstanding. It's pretty much a "must see"!
MISS SAIGON is also a fantastic production of a brilliant show.
If you did not see MEMPHIS on Broadway, that's well worth a visit.
The new musical BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM is really wonderful.
And the current cast of LES MIS are fantastic.

In addiction to the ones suggested by Karen (especially Gypsy! Imelda Staunton is delivering one of the greatest performances EVER!), I wouldn't miss "Farinelli and the King" to see the magnificent Mark Rylance in action. And if you love Shakespeare there is going to be a Young Vic production of Measure for Measure and Comedy of Errors and As You Like It at the National
Thanks everyone! I think I'm definitely going to try to see "Gypsy," and the Mark Rylance play is intriguing, as are the Shakespeare plays. Well, pretty much everything I did see "Memphis" so no worries there about missing it.
