Oh my god Roger Rees

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Scott Heller of the Times indicated Rees' PR Rep confirmed his passing. How horribly, horribly sad.  Way too soon.  RIP, Roger.

I knew he was ill (a friend in the cast even told me he was "gravely ill"), but my heart is heavy now. A true gem gone far too soon.

Prayers, peace, and comfort to his husband Rick Elice.

That's horrible! I had the pleasure of seeing him in the Addams Family and The Visit (though I wasn't a huge fan of either of those shows). And of course his and Alex Timbers' work on Starcatcher was astounding. What a shame. He will be missed.

A very talented man. What a great loss for the theater and of course his family.  So glad I saw his searing performance in THE VISIT.  And he was unforgettable in THE WINSLOW BOY a couple of seasons ago. Condolences to his loved ones.

Rest in Peace.   So sad.  I hope he was surrounded by love and was aware of it.

Very sad to hear of Roger Rees' passing. He was one of my favourite actors. His performance as Henry in the original production of The Real Thing was one of the abiding memories of theatregoing in my youth. Saw the show several times and he was incredibly kind and generous at stage door, fascinated at why a 12 year old would be so keen on such a play. Sadly, he had already departed The Visit by the time I saw it, but last thing I saw him in was the London revival of Godot with McKellen and, while I will never be a fan of the play, RR lit up the Haymarket stage whenever he was on it. I was definitely a fan of his. RIP Roger Rees, the theatre has lost a great actor, and we've lost a fine human being. Thoughts are with Mr Elice.

Wow, that's awful.  Roger starred in two of my favorite campy films Mel's Robin Hood Men in Tights, and If Looks Could Kill.  So hoped to see him in The Visit, and meet him, but he had to take leave before I could get to the show.  Never expected this, RIP.  A fantastic actor.
