I watched the movie Chicago tonight and thought how great Renee Zellweger and Cathernie Zeta-Jones are in the movie. I do not know the musical Follies, but I know their is two females leads in it. Since Rob Marshall is thinking about directing, could Renee and Catherine play the two female leads? If Rob does direct it could be a Chicago reunion.
I recall a few people on the board dreamcasting: Sally-Renee Zellweger Phyllis- Catherine Zeta-Jones Buddy- John C. Reilly (Amos) Ben- Richard Gere
And I think Queen Latifah as Stella was in there, too
Though it's not necessarily MY dream cast, I understand the reasoning behind these choices. CZJ could easily pull off the glamorous/regal aspect of Phyllis.
Zellweger could pull off the look for Sally, I think, and she could pull off the "young and girlish" aspect, however, she can't sing the part.
John C Reilly could pull off the "husband who loves his wife more than she loves him" (kind of like how he played Amos in Chicago, but much less of a pushover), and he would do a wonderful "Why Don't You Love Me Blues" and "The Right Girl".
Gere, in my opinion, is an all-around excellent choice for Ben.
So they could be good choices in the movie? I think it would be cool to see them again. They were great in Chicago and they all could use a role in a great movie. When was the the last had a role in a great movie.
I agree that all of them except Renee would be pretty good in Follies. Renee's voice isn't good enough, and it turns out I've never enjoyed her work in anything but Chicago (in which I absolutely love her and this she's perfection as Roxie). I used to thing Nicole Kidman could be a good Sally but the movie version of Nine killed my belief that she could sing anything about an F above middle C.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
I just don't want Rob Marshall to ever do a musical again (ESPECIALLY NOT SONDHEIM). The only thing that I could possibly see him doing is Spider Woman.
