Came across this interesting "mash-up" from Pacific Overtures. A beautiful and interesting edit of 3 songs, "There is No Other Way," "A Bowler Hat" and "Next" with truly arresting visuals.
I love this work and find much of this video haunting. Beautiful.
Beautiful and haunting video! And you are right to doubt the label- it's not a "mash-up," which would simultaneously use elements of two or more songs, such as using the melody line of one recording over the foundation of another. This is a medley, which merely transitions from one song to the Next (if you will). I blame "Glee" for constantly misusing the term.
The line between mashup and megamix has long been disputed, as both are forms of medley and the terminology is sort of vague. Probably the best cut-and-dried difference between mashup and megamix is that megamix moves from one song to another to another to another, while mashups intertwine pieces of the songs together concurrently, even if they seem to follow a more conventional medley structure.
There has never been a dispute between the terms mashup and megamix (which no one has mentioned here)- a 'megamix' is a term used to describe a curtain call medley jazzed up with a dance beat, popularized by "Joseph/Dreamcoat" to pad out the running time of a short show, and the difference is certainly not vague- and who exactly is having this dispute?
