Who saw last night's double episode finale of GLEE? I thought they did a great job wrapping up the series, even with some questionable moments/actions.
I'm just grateful that I have access to 700+ songs with captions that I otherwise wouldn't have had without GLEE. That's all I can say.
(I'm Deaf for those who don't know).
The radio isn't captioned, and MTV almost NEVER caption their music videos. All the music acts on the Grammys and the Tonys and the Oscars are all 3 lines of lyrics behind so it's not "fully accessible" while Glee's captions on the exact lyric being sung, thus making for a fuller and richer experience (match sound with word on the captions is way better than a disjointed wrong sound on the wrong line of lyric).
I think we can all learn a lot from GLEE- lessons like "keep your characters consistent, or people will lose interest," or like "establish your conventions and don't break them constantly, unless one of the first conventions you establish is that you're going to be playing with structure." Or that "schizophrenic tone that goes everywhere actually goes nowhere."
The first hour was very well conceived and the make-up/hair department should win an Emmy for it. The second hour was rushed and disorganized. Rachel's big 11 o'clock number should have been a montage of her future (replacing the pre-Tony gathering & Tony ceremony). Also, instead of the 2020 auditorium dedication nonsense, they should have just had all the characters in 4th wall breaking sing-off... …similar to this type of ending
I thought they did a great job eschewing all of the ridiculously over-the-top elements (with the exception of Sue becoming Vice-President) and getting back to the heart and sole of what made the show so likeable in the beginning. I actually teared up a couple of times. Yes, it was time for it to go, but I thought they went out with a lot of style and grace, and found it to be a very satisfying finale all-around.
Agree that last night's episodes were a step up from where they have been. Though I sort of hate that Brittany, Santana, Quinn, and Puck were totally thrown to the side like they didn't matter. I guess it was more bothersome because Santana and Brittany have been there all along and even shared their wedding with Kurt and Blaine.

I thought it odd, too, that Santana and Brittany played almost no part at all in the finale, save for a brief appearance at the very end. Although, it would have been difficult to fit everyone in and give them a storyline. At least they were prominently featured in the wedding episode a few weeks back. I feel that episode gave their characters and storyline some closure.
I thought the last two weeks were the closest the show has been to its old self in years. It was messy and imperfect and yet somehow charming. I too teared up a few times, especially when they re-aired "Don't Stop Believing" from the pilot. I was a high school arts geek when Glee began, so it's meant a lot to me, even when it spiraled into crazy-ville. Glad it went out with a satisfying finale.
The show has been a mess for some time but I thought the first hour of the finale was very good, got a but emotional during the 'don't stop believing' moment. The second hour had some nice moments but was also quite messy and I was really sad they didn't include Britney and Santana other than in the fin song.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna
I admit watching it just to see how Ryan the Spider was going to knit this web of inconsistencies together. HOO BOY! I snickered a lot and out and out guffawed several times. and once again remembered Ilya ( Never On A Sunday)'s version of the Greek tragedies endings, "And they all go to the seashore" . sigh.
There was a lack of Santana and Brittany at the end. We actually did not get to see what happens to them in 2020. I know they were only recurring characters in Season Six BUT nonetheless it would have been nice to find out what happens to them, as well as Puck & Quinn and the newbies etc. But I'm guessing Deleted Scenes will be included on the Season Six DVD? Klaine was amazing as always, their future life is just so perfect! Chris & Darren's cover of Daydream Believer was sweet. Hopefully Sony Columbia release an entire complete box set of CD's from Season One-Season Six. It would be great to own!
"Side note - aren't pretty much all music videos coming out CC on YouTube at this point?"
Technically, they should be, but I don't know if they actually are. I'd guess the overwhelming amount of content on YouTube makes it impossible for the captioning industry to keep up, but the goal is in sight, and it's certainly the desire of the FCC.

The 2009 episode was really nice. It actually answered a lot of questions about pre-glee Mckinley that I had. The episode overall felt a lot like, well, season 1 of glee. And I laughed when I found out Artie and Tina joined glee as a dare. I'm pretty sure I read a fan fic with that same scenario.
