Well, whadaya know, Roisin finally got her **** together and made a full album. She's been hinting at releasing one for years now. Though, I have enjoyed a lot of the singles and collaborations she's done in the last couple of years. Especially the absolutely spellbinding 10+ minute "Simulation" and the ridiculously sexy "Leviathan". Thanks for the heads up, Jay! Wasn't such a huge fan of that Italian language EP thingy she released.
The SoundCloud account looks to be down - will have to check the new song out later. Maybe she'll finally do a US, tour, too. I think a US tour with Roisin, Neneh Cherry (whose new'ish album is fantastic) and Grace Jones would sell very well in major markets.
Jay, think it's just the two of us here, but I had a chance to listen to 'Gone Fishing', so I figured a bump was in order. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't that. At first I was a touch disappointed that the first single (or buzz track or whatever the hell we're calling this) wasn't more of an uptempo-I'm-back-barnstormer, but I have to say 'Gone Fishing' is really lovely. Such a subtle, but absolutely gorgeous vocal. I can't wait to hear more.
I had the same reaction, but it clicked with me on the second listen. In the right setting, in the right mood, it's great - it's the type of track I imagine will have a long play-life on my iPod, not one of those I listen to 64 times in two days and then never again.

Love Roisin. "Let Me Know" is one of my favourite music videos. Love her dancing round the greasy spoon cafe!! Such a simple video but I just love it!
Heard "Gone Fishing" on BBC Radio 2 and liked it immediately, had been a bit nervous about hearing it. Not sure why!
Anyway completely off the wall but I have been wondering if Roisin would be likely to enter the Eurovision Song Contest this year. I know she is way too cool, but the UK entry will be revealed tomorrow (Saturday evening) and I just think the timing is all there, as is the fact she is big in Eastern Europe - at least, that's what i've heard.
If she were to enter the Eurovision, would it not be for her own country of Ireland?
I really don't think that's her bag, though...I daydreamed about Kylie representing Australia in their debut this year, but I knew that wasn't going to happen either.

BTW, I somehow missed that "Gone Fishing" was inspired by the stories of those beautiful kids in PARIS IS BURNING. Makes the song even more resonant for me. Jay - have we heard anything else from the upcoming LP?
Not from the new LP - but there's "Jealousy", a standalone single entirely separate -
The single will not appear on her forthcoming album, which she announced recently via Twitter. "Although my album is a rather eclectic affair, this release for Crosstown is one for the purists. I have a deep love for house and disco so this 12-inch is strictly for dancing to," says Murphy.
I'm in disco-house heaven. She really does this better than anyone. (And, yes, I know she doesn't do it alone, but still...)
Makes perfect sense that this is a standalone and not an album track, too. Love these extended 8-10 mins disco/house songs she's been releasing the last couple of years.
Vera, Jay - heard the new song previewed from the album? It's a single version of "Exploited". I'm not convinced that it's as strong as "Gone Fishing". It feels very slight. I'm hoping that whatever we hear next is a bit.. bolder. ROISIN - Exploitation
Oh, I nearly missed this. Thanks, HT. Yeah, I agree - I've only given it one listen though, so I won't underestimate it just yet. With only eight tracks on the record, we've now heard a quarter of them...I hope the stomping gem we've been waiting for is in there somewhere.

I didn't think Roisin could get cooler than she is and then she drops this self-directed video for "Exploitation" with the best references - a weird Kazumi Kurigami/Faye Dunaway commercial and a somewhat obscure John Cassavetes/Gina Rowlands film.
Wait--I always thought she was welsh for some reason... Sing it Back was my fave song back when I started being able to go to bars--and I liked a few other Moloko tracks but realized, like Sing it Back, I mostly liked them more when remixed. I did love her debut album, though, and I have no idea why I've been so slow to pick up on this.
Even if I thought her feud with a then virtually unknown Calvin Harris over Off and On was silly (he had just done Kylie's sublime In My Arms, and she was worried he was now too pop--which, arguably-he is now. Sophie Ellis Bexter eventually got the tune.)
Yup, she's Irish. Has a pretty thick accent when she speaks, too.
What's the skinny on the Calvin Harris feud? Never heard "Off and On" before. It's nice, but I think definitely "filler" when compared to so many of the exquisitely produced dance pop gems on Overpowered.
(Also, completely unrelated, but I had no idea that Calvin Harris was now an underwear model. I fully support this evolution of his career.)
Thank you HorseTears for the clips. Sorry, I am late to this, didn't see the updates. I am loving the glockenspiel sound she is using at the moment. Also love the video. Roisin is so effortlessly cool. Channelling Gina and Faye. Opening Night is one of my fav films. Never seen the egg commercial before. Is she also paying tribute to the Judi Dench Macbeth? PS Horse - thank you for the Calvin link too. He looks mighty fine
I agree that Off and On (though I love it) would have seemed filler on her album. I believe she felt the lyrics were not personal enough. Harris was trying to make it big at the time--something his work with Kylie helped with, so I believe that's where the contention stemmed from (though even in the UK, Roisin's album was more a success d'estime than anything else.)
Fellow Roisin fans. Roisin was a guest on Jo Whiley's radio show on Tuesday night. I will post the link and hope you guys get a chance to listen. She sang a song off the album, an old Moloko track, took part in a quiz and played some of her fav songs!!
The show is 2 hours long but Roisin is on after the 1st hour.
Another self-directed and reference heavy experience for video #2. And it's perhaps even more impressive than Exploitation. Honestly, if she decides to give up music, Roisin could start a very successful career as a director and perhaps actress, too. The most obvious reference is Ingmar Bergman's Persona, though there are apparently several other obscure references, too.
