It is official. It closes 1/24 the last day Sting is in it. Another quality show goes down the drain

Never got to see it myself. I just feel a little sorry, for the British performers, moving over to America, only to see their show close this soon.

I just think that shows should get a confirmed run, for 6 months or something. At least that way, it doesn't feel like it's all for nothing. (Producers put their money in knowing the risks)

No show would ever get produced if they had to do this.

Ticket prices are simply to high and people are not going as much. It needed raves and it did not get them. Even when Sting went in to try and save it, you could still get cut rate tickets.People liked his music but did not warm to a musical about a dying industry in a dying town. The Producers really misjudged here.

All shows are a risk but I think it was a huge gamble opening this show on Broadway, although I dont know if it would have done any better in the UK. I know there's a concert version of this show at the Sage (a North East venue seating over 2500 people) and both performances are sold out but Sting is from the North East so has a big fan base up here.

For me the problem with 'LS'(which I saw over Christmas), is the problem with a lot of Broadway shows these days. The productions are needlessly overblown. The book and score of shows like 'Ship' & last seasons, 'Big Fish' are essentially small scale. About local communities and families. Personally, I don't think they need huge sets & big production numbers. Big Broadway productions are fantastic, when it works. I just wish producers and directors would remember, 'big isn't always best'. I think (and I know it really annoys many, across the pond) that when some of these shows, are restaged and scaled down in London. It's very apparent, how much better the book & score seem to shine through.
